trainwreck build by karczochrulez in a mcgyver style :)

Post by karczochrulez »

Hello
I build tw in a two months in my kitchen.
Differencies :
1.chassis from steel (top from my old washing mashine :) )
2.two 180 uF in one row caps in 1st filter stage and two 220 ohm resistors
3.power tranie as a output tranie
4.build without rotary switch - only 8 ohm and 1 output jack
5.new caps replaced mica caps
6.military Soviet Union tubes in preamp and inverter – 6n2p-ew (differencies in fillament and screen)
7.20W cement 1K resistor as a choke
8. wires from old computer and TV set
my wreck is extremely loud. In one vol position sound is clean and full with little hum I dont try next levels becouse my neighbors are wery nervous :)
Now I build head cabinet from oak and plywood (parts from my basement)

I love it! Due to the (ahem) budget at my shop, if I ever build a TW it'll probably also be McGyver style.

Enjoy :)

Wow, now that's working with what you have...

The exposed HV wires on the PT look kinda crazy dangerous to me....

When you turn it up to 10 on the volume, your neighbors aren't going to be nervous for long.... angry and deaf perhaps, but no longer nervous..

Interesting use of what you had on hand. :D

I like the chassis a lot.

Does it have the old porcelain type finish or enamel?

I like your amp and use of what you have. reminds me of the things my brothers and I would make after scrounging the local scrap yards.

I love mcgyver amps. I wrecked a bassman.

I found a 70's Bassman head that had been heavily modded, gutted it and put an Express ckt in.

You are the first person who ask me about something important on ampgarage.com - I am impresed :)
I am from Poland. PT as OT its ordinary solution in guitar between Polish amps builders. As You will see its a special kind of PT with "O" core. In fact that works as double tranny, becouse primary is 2x115V and secondary is for example 2x9V
That solution works only with push-pull amps
I played today - sound is fantastic! I didnt bias level yet - maybe tomorrow

edit

Today i made OT screen
