Piggy Amp

Post by c_edwards »

I was recently at a "Garage Sale". you know those old junk stores that are almost in every town. Anyways something caught my eye at this one as there were several guitar amps available. One was a fairly recent peavey. The other was kinda beat up and almost looked like it was a tube amp (unfortunately no) so I took a chance after being reassured it worked and purchased for $100 canuck bucks. Outside was a little rough, so I took the electronics out and dropped the baffle board. Out came the nice rotary palm sander, and couple of hours later I had a nicely refreshed looking amp case. After some Watco Danish oil in Black Walnut, I think this iI got a stunning result. (no before pics unfortunately). I need to fix a couple of extra holes someone put in for holding the baffle with drywall screws and re-glue on the supports for them. I'm also maybe missing a logo from the front of the baffle. The baffle material doesn't show any glue marks though, so I'm unsure about that. Maybe I could use some washers and just re-screw the baffle in place though. Might be easiest..

One nice discovery was that the case is made from mahogany instead of softwood. Really nice grain pattern.

Does the amp itself work or are you oing to gut the chassis and build something else inside?
I build effects and amps and do custom builds to order. Boom.

I needed a few things before I could plugin and try it. Mainly a 1/4" cord for attaching my guitar. Couldn't find mine from years ago. Anyways, after plugging it in and turning it on, it plays. loudly I might add. So glad I ordered a Marshall Origin 50 yesterday. lol. I believe this is a 10w amp. I have to wonder what I had back in the early 80's. Both tube amps. One a Fender of some sort with reverb. Very large cabinet probably from the 60's. The other was a size similar to this, but nowhere near the cabinet this has and alot less volume. I really wish I still had both of those amps. I'm kicking my ass.
