5 step filter positions on high and low filter, 1 bypass for each
So you think that the layout and the hand drawn schematic of SSS #001 are both wrong in regard to the number of filter positions?

Cheers,

Your guess is far better than mine.

"5 positions, 1 bypass on both hi & low" is only a best guess, although this may have only been done to the amps after serial #1.

I know that a few SSS's after #4 have this bypass feature on the Hi and Low filters, some with 6 positions, some with 11.

Greg, IMO it depends on what you call a "filter position":

In a mechanical sense I know of three mechanical versions you’ll find in Dumble amps:

One version with 7 mechanical positions corresponding to 7 position markers on the front plate. This version has one position marker in the 12:00 position and three on the am and three on the pm side. For some examples see the attached SSS 100W, SSS150W (SRV) and Dumbleland Special 150W pictures.

One version with 6 mechanical positions corresponding to 6 position markers on the front plate. This version doesn’t have a position marker in the 12:00 position. For an example see the 300SL picture attached to my next post.

One version with 11 mechanical positions corresponding to 11 position markers on the front plate. This version has one position marker in the 12:00 position and five on the am side and five on the pm side. For an example see the SSS 150W picture (Kirk Hammett) attached to my next post.

And AFAIK one of these 6, 7, or 11 mechanical positions is often a "bypass position".

And AFAIK there exist different versions concerning the total number of bypass position: No bypass position, one bypass position (High or Low) and two bypass positions (High and Low).

Revised layout.

Fixed the join to the slope resistor and a minor tweak to the filter input.

Layout is unconfirmed so assume it has errors.

Thanks,
Aaron

Hi ,
the bias wire from PT is missing , and the grid resistors of power tubes should be 2k2 or 3k3.

He's taking the neg bias from one side of the B+ winding...

Well actually yes it's a 3k3. Go look at the SSS schematics before you jump to anymore conclusions; this is a high voltage neg. bias supply, not standared issue. You need this for operating direct-coupled cathode followers...

I'm using this exact circuit in my direct-coupled amp...

For future reference an actual tested built of SSS#001 without reverb and tremolo

Also wondering if anyone has a higher resolution version of the layout

Are there any sound samples/videos available of this amp by any chance?

Are you talking about this layout? http://ampgarage.com/forum/download/fil ... &mode=view

There is nothing wrong with seeing that layout. Click on the layout in that post then copy to your files.
