JFET substitution?

Post by Normster »

Time to finish up my clone and can't find the NTE452 I bought many moons ago. I just checked Mouser and they want $10 for it now!

Mouser has a Central Semiconductor P/N 2N4416A that has VERY similar specs. Has anyone tried one of these or have any other ideas for a NTE452 replacement? If need be, I'll spring for the $10 part, but it seems outrageous that that particular P/N is so pricey.

Yes - I've used the 2N4416A. It works perfectly fine as a sub for the NTE part at about 1/4 the price.

Norm,

Mouser didn't use to stock that part and charged handsomely for it. I bought a whole bunch of NTE452s some years ago for about $1 each at Fry's. You might want to check your local Fry's, if there is one in Sacratomato. Same deal with the NTE966 voltage rergulator, by the way.

Cheers,

Gil

From memory the 2n5484, 2n5485 will do as well.

Yup, even NTE says the 2N4416A is a sub (they say "replace 2N4416A with NTE452", of course)!

The 2N5484/5485 they say NTE451, whatever that is.

Hi Normster,

NTE uses its own part numbers (which I never liked) for standard production prouducts.

NTE purchases surplus parts cheap from any old source (Malaysian, Thai, Idonesian, East European, Japanese, etc,; and China for Germanium transistors the last time I checked) and sells for top dollar in some cases. The NTE452 can be of different parentage from another NTE452 when previous stock's mfg runs out.

You might try the TO-92 version of the 2N4416 or its equivalent:

"the plastic TO-92 equivalents
include 2N5484, 2N5595, 2N5586, 2N5555, PN4416, MPF102,
J304, J305"

http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea ... rds=MPF102

MPF102 Sells for 63 cents.

Best Regards,

Steve

Steve, would you come up with a different list of subs for a 2N4416A, the"A" being the critical detail??
