Reassigning Deep to Footswitch

Post by murky69nz »

Hi all

I'm wanting to reassign the PAB footswitch function to switch the deep switch on/off.

I'm pretty handy with a solder (done plenty of guitars/pedals) and know how to properly discharge caps, but am a little reluctant to start poking around in an amp - hence I'm probably going to get a tech to do the job.

Anyway, what I'd appreciate advice on:
1) whether it's relatively simple such that I can have a go at myself or not?
2) and if so, what's the best way of going about it?

Thanks in advance

Is it HRM?
I don't see any non HRM with the Deep circuit.

Sorry again, I'm wasting everyone's time with lack or/incorrect info....

It is the standard Overtone, non HRM. I thought it was a deep switch because that's what the faceplate says it is, but looking at the Ceriatone schematics, I think it's likely to be the mid-boost option. in the off position it provides a cleaner blackface sound with more bass (hence why "deep" seemed to make some sense), in the on position it kicks the gain and mids up considerably and drops some of the bass.

Anyway, it's this switch that I'm looking to assign to the footswitch.

Thanks

I may be mistaken but I thought that the mid boost (when in the OFF position) does not add any more bass but merely limits some of the lower mids from passing through the Treble pot; which are otherwise passed through when in the ON position

So maybe it just sounds like there's less bass (when ON) because you are hearing more mids in balance.

In any case the Mid switch function is performed by just a single switch - so you could easily jumper the switch with a low power SPST relay controlled by a foot switch.

The panel label is, I believe, Nik's homage to #124 that had it's stack upgraded to a Skyline and the deep replaced with the mid function.

Anyway, I like a foot switchable mid boost myself. In that instance, I find it easier to leave the existing switch intact as is in the circuit and wire the relay in in parallel to it, using just one pair of contacts on the relay (a 'common' and 'n/o' pair).

Hope that helps.
