Re: Kalimba - New clip demoing both Ojai and Tag circuit
Not sure how accurate measuring any cap in circuit is. The slightest bit of residual voltage or resistance messes up the meter's ability to get a good reading. With the tube pulled, and ANY voltage present you still have the cathode network to ground, the plate network to power supply (kinda counts as a ground), and it might sway the metering...just sayin'
Why speculate?
Why not try it and know for sure?
All anyone needs to do is perform an experiment themselves!
Put a 250pf cap and measure with the cathode grounded, then try a 25pf cap with the cathode grounded.
I am POSITIVE anyone who did this could easily differentiate a 25pf from a 250pf.
Just sayin'

BTW Scott both amps sounded great! Liking the new recording rig.

BTW great recording Scott. Bet you're having a blast this past year. I liked the RF amp best.

dogears wrote:Maybe Tag. The only grey area is the size of the od1 cap. Shad says it is a .015 even though it looks like a .05. So, unless he lied, it is a .015. Also, the snubbers. I may prefer when I had 270pf in there. This is minutia though. I assure you that the amp sounds like 183. In fact, Brad posted some clips of it by mistake as the real Dumble. Fooled him....
Did he? LOL! I must have missed that.
Yes, I have a few thousand myself.Remember I have control clips of the real one.![]()
HMMM....One of them killed. In the video of it and the Bludo, the Dumble was off the charts for what I like. (Oviously why I bought it to begin with!)Btw, you did not care for the real 183 clips either.
Yes, we set things very different, thats for sure! They all sound good though. Your real old Fuchs clips are still some of my favorites as well! So, maybe it just sounds and records differently for me. Or I set it way differently.

I totally agree, residual memory voltage will throw off cap readings, not to mention thevenin equivalents while still in the circuit.FUCHSAUDIO wrote:Not sure how accurate measuring any cap in circuit is. I just had a panic attack thinking about thevenin's theorem from college examsBobW wrote:....thevenin equivalents while still in the circuit.

Re: Kalimba - New clip demoing both Ojai and Tag circuit
Mr Thevenin is screwing up my reading.....I measured OD1 snubber (270pf) I have 4.7uf bypass, 0.05uf OD1 coupler and readout is 3.3nF on my ECG CX-920A.
Do I need different equipment to do this or is it plain impossible in this manner?
FWIW, I have not seen a 250K labeled cap that measures below 100pF.

I'm not sure what you referring to Scotty
If your saying I posted one of your demo's thinking it was 183 , Thats because I made some Copy's on my desk top miss labeled it , and posted w/o listening to it first
Is that what happen ?
