Font?

Post by Structo »

Does anybody know what the font is, that is used on the later Overdrive Special amps?
The all white cursive one.

I have an Airstream font that is real close but is bit too bold.

There was a discussion here somewhere a while ago... Anyway, here's a link:

http://www.fontshop.com/fonts/singles/s ... c_sb_bold/

I need to make a name decal for the front of my ODS. Has anybody tried a sign shop for a vinyl decal of the letters only (no clear field surrounding them)? Can it be created easily if it is just a standard font such as gillies gothic bold?

Yup - Martin nailed it - someone here was getting white on black vinyl done at Kinkos - I can't remember who it was. I'm going to get one made for both my Dumble Clone and my Bruno ptototype one of these days.

I have Brush Script and a Fender font and they are different.

My plan is to print the words on some frisket, stick it on the chassis,
then take a very sharp Xacto knife and cut out the letters, then spray white paint over it like a stencil.

Martin that is close to the font but I won't pay for a font.
There are free ones all over the place, I just need to find it.

gilies gothic

Post by greenbottle »

From memory when I was looking at fonts the gilies was about $75 whereas the airstream was Free. About the only difference I could see was the Capital B. to see the difference look at a real Dumble and compare with the Vasinguitaramp version. www.vasinguitaramp.tripod.com/id4.html

Pehaps some one who is good with font editors can help us all out.

I realize the capital B is just a bit different because the real one has a little tail at the top but this is darn close.

Look at the Gillies I just posted.

Hi Tom,

This is how I did it:

Copied from my 2008 'Font' post.

I've just discovered a neat little trick for getting your logos done in 'Gillies Gothic SB Bold' (the 80's Dumble font).

1. Open your photo editing software and create a 'new' template that is 10 cm wide by 5 cm high.

2. visit http://www.fontshop.com/fonts/singles/s ... c_sb_bold/

3. Close to the top of the page it lets you type some sample text. Type 'Overdrive' or whatever @ 96pt.

4. Right click your mouse over the sample text below and select 'copy'.

5. Import into your photo editor software.

6. Repeat steps 3,4&5 for the word 'Special'.

7. Repeat steps 3,4&5 for the words 'By Dumble' but this time @ 74pt.

By moving the imported images around, you can lay it out however you wish. It is almost an identical match. (Letter spacing is not quite there, but it is pretty hard to tell them apart.

Take the 'art work' to Kinko et voila....

All for free.

Cheers,

Paul.

In the end I think I am going to go with this.

But my idea of printing it on frisket and cutting out the letters won't work because it is just simply too small to do.

So first I am going to try a waterslide decal I made but this chassis has a rougher powder coat than most and it may not look good.

The other option is to go to a print shop and have them make a vinyl sticker.

Click for actual size.

Hello, I thought I would resurrect this thread instead of starting a new one.

I needed to put some letters on an amp that I just built ( D style) and needed to replace some of the silk screening on my chassis. The amp is built so I cant have it re silkscreened.

Has anyone found a source of good quality decals/stickers etc. that would work?

Thanks for the help for a newbie on this forum!!!
