Love Carltons tone here:

What circuit do you suppose he is using (although, it looks like he has two Dumble heads)?

Thanks!!

Both Larry and Robben Ford use Dumble ODS amps.

That's what makes the both of them sound so friggin good! :D

Thanks.
Do you have any idea which circuit, in particular, Carlton is using in this clip, or, what speakers too for that matter?

Sorry I don't know much about Larry's amp but I think it is a low plate classic.

Here is a great tune from that series.

Larrys Dumbles are/were what is known as the Ripper. Basically a bluesmaster front end feeding a Marhsll plexi recovery/cathode follower/tone stack used as the OD section to a bluesmaster master power amp.

He's using 1x12 EvM12-L in a Theile cab. The amp is dry (nothing in the amps loop), its mic'd and fed through a Lexicon unit to a personal mixer that Larry controls.

Man that amp just kills! (Both of them!!)

Jelle,

It's a Dumble in the OP's link, not a Bludo.

Here it is:

Am I understanding you correctly, that LC's amp has a BluesMaster clean and this type of a Marshall gain/cathode follower for the OD? Ignoring the values, is this the OD topology that you're referring to?

Yup, from what I have that is pretty close. As I remember the input network is a little different. Don't remember the exact values but from memory I seem to remember it was more like a bluesmaster.

You may be right. But as of the last couple years, Larry is playing Bludos most of the time. That PDF is dated.

Only one overdrive gain stage? Does does that effect the overdrive?

Here's Ford and Carlton (Boulder Theatre) playing the same song (Cold Cold) where they are both using Bludo's. Obviously there are a ton of variables in recording, etc., but the Bludo's seem darker and less defined than the Dumbles when the two clips are played back to back. NOT stirring. Just saying.

So in this configuration where is the drive control..Is it just disconnected or moved up before the OD entrance just after the switch?

No OD trigger and shielded wire going to V2A
