Yes, didn't proof read well enough; thanks for pointing it out.

Mark, The Hammond 290FX Twin PT replacement puts out 423V from 122VAC at the wall in my ODS. It was ~440V unloaded, as I recall. It is supposed to produce period correct voltages, I believe. Lots of successful builds have been done using this unit, and it sounds great to my ears. I see there is now a 291FX, same ratings, but with M6 steel lam's.
?
I like using the 290FX... used it in the Bluesmaster build. But you only get 420VDC and the 183 documents/measures 465VDC. That would seem to offer more head room, all other things equal.

I can't find an off-the-shelf PT that would give me 465VDC so I am planning to go with the 290FX I have on hand... I'm also going to try 6CA7s in this build for a bit more hybrid 6L6/EL34 sound.

gtramp: Do you have an off-the-shelf laydown transformer for the 700VCT? That would seem to be able to produce the right 183 voltages under load.

Hi ,I have a laydown transformer ,and with 229V wall power:

Plate+bias measured: 352-57-0-352
heater measured: 6,6V (with CT)

I thought to start immediately to build the amplifier, but this trafo leaves me doubtful! :?

479V no load..

Hi Tony , that trafo is like 125P34A , I tried it for a #124 clone and go great ,( bought from TAD ) , but for a #183 I think can be a low heater current.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks Tony! That one looks perfect.

BTW... mean't to tell you that the half-power switching doesn't look quite right in the 183 layout... I have a schematic coming, but I'll edit it for the Mojotone transformer 1st.

Thanks I'll take a look at it..Good luck with the build

Here's the schematic... I like to have a complete schematic that I can use to build against (highlight each wire/node)... this one has the MOJO763 transformer in it. I'll cross-post in the files section.

Edit: Schematic updated with change to voltages and dropping string... hoping the MOJO753 delivers the goods!

These trans have a 35-40% over spec rating

here are the notes I got from Shad reguarding the /2 power switch..

Half power is a little funky. Cathodes should go to the switch poles.
> R's on the top throws, ground on the lower throws.
If you see something that is not right let me know or perhaps Shad can clarify..Thanks..

The two R's should join together and then go through the LED to ground... the copy of the layout I have doesn't show that.

Doc is correct. Resistors tie, then go through the led on to ground.

Ahh DAH!! I was looking @ Switch.. .. Gottcha.. Revised in ver11.. Thanks Guy's
ok , but not 230Vac prim
They make an EX model
http://www.mojotone.com/amp-parts/trans ... sformer-EX

According to my notes both the 7063 and 7063EX are the same the EX has the 230 taps on the primary.. Heater current rated @ 6.3V @ 6amps on both (4X34's) right at 6 Amps..The over spec tolerances shouldn't matter which primary taps you use..The notes came straight from Heybour..BTW HT rating on those is 500ma not 450..
