Dumblify one chanel of my Bandmaster Reverb?
Hi all,
This is going to be a bit of a ramble to start with so please bear with me...
I have a SF Fender Bandmaster Reverb which has been extensively modified. I've added a choke (no longer ultra-linear operation) and modded it with a couple of London Power tweaks to add a switchable drive channel. Oh, and the chassis is built into a 1x15 combo cabinet!
All in all, it sounds sweet, except the drive channel is awful.
I've been thinking about what it is I really want the drive to sound like and I've come to realise that I really like the basic sound of a Zendrive clone pedal through the Fender clean channel - it really sounds fantastic. Now, as I understand it, the Zendrive pedals are designed to be "Dumble-in-a-pedal", right? So it seems to me that what I need to do is re-work my Bandmaster drive channel into some sort of Dumble drive configuration.
I guess what I want to know is if anyone has done anything like this before, and is anyone able to offer any recommendations as to how to achieve this? I don't want to make an authentic Dumble clone - just to get something approximating to the creamy drive sound.
Would it be possible to convert the Fender channel to produce a Dumble-flavour drive sound?
All hints/tips/suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks,
R.

hmm...how many triode sections are in the 'drive' channel?
Start with the tonestack. Build the skyliner and if it's too bassy, build the classic.

So far, these look interesting:

I'll study the final layout in that Super Twin conversion and also the DLite schematic. I'd like to keep the Fender Reverb and Tremelo.
Thanks guys,
R.

I have 2 1971 SF bandmasters that have been modded for a "D" style drive channel by Jimmy Somma at Sommatone. both Sound very good to me. Not the same as an exact clone, but very nice sounding drive channels. Don't want to give details or gut shots without his permission. Suggest you call him.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm in the UK so can't really consider that option.scotto wrote:I have 2 1971 SF bandmasters that have been modded for a "D" style drive channel by Jimmy Somma at Sommatone. both Sound very good to me.
