Sonny Landreth and (possibly) Bludotone

Post by stratcat62 »

I was watching some Sonny Landreth videos on YouTube and ran across one from the Medicine Show in Lafayette, LA last year. He's got his regular Dumble cabinet that I recognize, but on top he's plugged into a D-style amp with white knobs that appears to be a Bludotone. If it is a Dumble, it's not the tan amp with Vox grill cloth that I've seen before. Just some interesting information, didn't find any mention of him using any D-style amps when I searched this forum.

The video is Blues Attack. Best view of the amp between 1:10 and 1:28.

Looks like a Bludo w/ a Dumble 1x12 cab to me

To me it looks a lot like a Bruno Super 100.

IIRC, and I am from South Louisiana and know people that know Sonny well, he uses a Demeter in addition to the ODS. Before he got the ODS around 95, he always used the Demeter. On stage and in the studio now, he is known to switch between heads, and use different speaker cabs from time to time. There is no telling which amp(s) he will bring to a gig though. I have seen him use one, the other and both on stage. Sometimes in the same night.

He does still use the Demeter TGA-3, but that's not the amp in the video. TGA-3 has two rows of knobs over and under. This is a D-style amp.
Spent much time and many brain cells myself in Crowley.

The amp in the video is a Bludotone Bluesmaster.

I would have to respectfully say that a TGA-3 is not a Dumble styled amp. At one time I owned a carpet covered, mono (single return) TGA-3 close in S/N to SL's (according to James), but currently own two stereo TGA-3's that I purchased back in 91' & 93'.

Maybe I'll put up some gut pics one day, don't think I've ever seen any gut pics of a TGA-3 on the net.

Sorry, what I meant is that the amp in the video is a D-style and the Demeter is not.
I for one would love to see some gut shots of a TGA-3!

I think it may be a Bludo-Drive simply because of the knob layout and it has a blue pilot light.

Here are both, sorry for the blurry image of Sonny's amp, it's a screen shot.

Sonny has a relationship with Brandon. I know for a fact he has played them live a few times.

It is a Bludo.....but not sure whether Sonny owns one yet.

This reminds me... he may be playing a blood, but if he owns it (or uses it regularly) is another question. He uses all kinds of amps from time to time... here he is at a Crossroads event... see that wooden cabinet amp to the left of him with the towel on it? That is my (TheAirtightGarage) MaryJane amp, and he is playing through it. But he does not own one. Heck, I don't even know if he really knew what it was. :(
