Re: pilot light bulb for 2nd generation
Hi Max,
yes, now that you’ve said it – that OT realy doesn’t look like a bassman OT. I don’t know any reason for that,
but I doubt that the owner is lying when he says that he never had the amp repaired. Maybe Applied Acoustics
got the amp from HAD without the transformers and stuffed this thing in.
Do you have any idea what type it could be and btw – can you tell what kind of tube is next to the reverb tranny ?
Thanks,
Juergen

Hi Jürgen,Runaway J wrote:Do you have any idea what type it could be and btw – can you tell what kind of tube is next to the reverb tranny ?
the tube that AFAIK is specified by Alexander Dumble for this position (engraving in the chassis) is a 12AT7. And IMO the one in the socket looks like a 12AT7.
IMO this OT looks like a Fender 125A6A / 022848. Here’s a chart of the Fender amps with this OT: http://www.unclespot.com/FenderXFMRchart.html
If inside the chassis there are four insert nuts in four of the usual 6 holes for the OT (two empty holes for the larger Twin OT of the 100W versions that are built into the same chassis), this could perhaps be interpreted as a "proof", that Alexander Dumble fitted a usual Bassman OT that - for whatever reasons - has later been exchanged for this 125A6A (first opportunity to start specualting: "How to find out if there's Dumble DNA on this 125A6A"?

I know of rumours ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCZ9TguVOIA ) of perhaps two or three ODS 50W combo amps exported to Europe that now are fitted with such a 125A6A OT. And concerning these perhaps two or three amps there has been some speculation concerning possible reasons.
And AFAIK some involved in these speculations think, that the original OT may perhaps have been in the way when mounting some of these amps into some of the export combo cabinets with perhaps too tight a fit (second opportunity to start speculating: "Is it really possible, that professional distributors are too stupid to build a matching combo cabinet and then are too lazy to build a new cabinet with correct dimensions and because of this exchange the original OT of a 50W amp for a 125A6A OT with (at least AFAIK) rather different specs?"

I attached two pictures of the interior of #0040. On these you can see three of the four insert nuts for the Bassman OT.
So what now is the "truth" concerning this OT?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69F7GhASOdM

Juergen (Runaway J),
It would be great if you could post some inside shots of this ODR-50w. Is that at all possible? We'd all love to see the inside. Looks like a fantastic amp!

You can bet there's nobody out there who would love to see the inside more than meboldaslove6789 wrote:Juergen (Runaway J),

From our first conversation I can tell that the owner seems not to be into electronics very much and that for
is afraid of removing the chassis from the cab and perhaps break a thing or two

Plus he has heard of the cloning game and does'nt want to step on Alex's toes.
But I'm working on that

I think Max is correct, it's certainly looks like two point mount 35W OT 022848.

Maybe they took this one 'cause they needed space for the reverb spring.
Just a thought ...
...and... 35W

Must have been done by Applied Acoustics.
Hope I get some MP3s soon.

Re: pilot light bulb for 2nd generation
Strange thing happen ...
a few days ago I asked the owner of #0030 for some information about the amp soundwise (overdrive+reverb etc.).
When he wanted to test it to be sure to answer my questions correct the amp that I praised so much started to fail.
He has a loud buzz in CL mode that changes a bit when he touches the chassis and when he switches to OD the amp starts to squeel.
Does anyone know a good amptech who knows Dumbles here in Germany ?

Re: pilot light bulb for 2nd generation
It is probably just a tube that has failed.
First try to simply replace the tubes one by one with a known good one.

Re: pilot light bulb for 2nd generation
Reportedly Michael Tauber ("Atelier der Tonkunst", Darmstadt) repairs Dumbles. Reportedly at least he did repair RF's #102. AFAIK Jack Smith, during many years a close friend of Alexander Dumble, tells this in an interview that's published in "A Dumble Book".Runaway J wrote:Does anyone know a good amptech who knows Dumbles here in Germany ?

Hi Juergen,Runaway J wrote:... forgot to mention: according to the dumblebook applied acoustics only imported 1 ODSR to germany. So this is it.
actually the book sais: "at least" one and not only one....
enjoyed the information, thanks.
