123 Schematic

I played #115, the sister amp to #123 and can confirm that it was absolutely clean all the way up on the clean channel. I was playing a rosewood Strat. There was a slight amount of grit with the PAB on, but otherwise clean no matter how the amp was set. I can't recall how much the input volume affected the OD on that amp. Sounded great. I think he was asking $75,000 for it.

I don't know and can only speculate: Taking into acount all I know and his guitar sound at this Baked Potatoe gig I think it's more probable a high plate classic. But to avoid misunderstandings I'll add that I played low plate classic amps that have IMO been less similar to other low plate classic amps from the same period then to some of the high plate classic amps I played. IMO a player familiar with Dumble amps and used to adjust his technique to the way an amp reacts will be able to get rather similar tones with a low plate and a high plate classic amp. So IMO the sound of Larry Carlton at this time was perhaps more influenced by his external EQ e.g. than by the difference a low plate "classic" amp would have made (if he really played the high plate version at the Baked Potatoe). I thought I remember Gil saying it was a high plate classic.. Maybe he can confirm this..Larry used to have the AudioArts parametric EQ n his rack...I think he used his Valley arts guitar on most of that CD..Love that tone he got btw..

I don't know whether it was a high or low plate classic. But as you point out, Tony, between the AudioArts parametric EQ and the midrange boost on the Valley Arts Strat, all bets are off. I used to have just that for a while and the effect of the EQ and active electroncis in the guitar was so strong that the amp became much more of a secondary thing.

His reverb and/or delay didn't have an output level so he also ran the amp through a mixer... Lots'a cheese!

Please consider this schematic as a DRAFT until we get some more eyes on it looking for errors & comments are made.

Once that is done, I will correct it & delete the previous schematic.

Q1: Value guesses on the power tube cathode resistor and diode?

Q2: Value guess on the bias?

Q3: Want this posted with a 404k resistor or a 500k pot regarding the OD
tone control?
