Great photos Markus, thanks.

I read somewhere recently about not using taps from the PT for the relay switching because of noise. That's why HAD always used a separate 12V transformer.

Is Brandon doing something different, or different transformer?

Thanks,

Aaron

Aaron, I can´t answer any technical question because I don´t have any knowledge  But I think there are enough experts here in this forum!!!

Most likely, the Pwr Trafo has an extra 12v Relay Tap.

IMHO, HAD used a separate relay transformer only because stock Fender style units didn't have an extra 6.3V tap on them. On some of his high voltage builds using MusicMan iron, HAD used the extra filament supply to power the relays.

Unless things have changed Brandon was ordering his PT's with an extra 6.3V tap.

Markus, thank you very much for the pictures. You posted some great shots. Brandon builds a a very nice amp. On first look, it is interesting that there are no orange drop caps or Dale resistors. Caps appear to be Nichicon polypropylene - more like 716 orange drops than 6ps. Looks like mostly metal film with a few carbon film resistors. Anybody know what kind of iron that is?

IIRC years ago Funk mentioned having custom wound from Heyboer.

Yes, Thanks Markus.

Markus wrote:Hi, guys,

here´s a short video from a concert, that I played with my German bluesrock band "Herr Markus & die Veteranen" (Mr. Markus & the veterans) on a blues festival some weeks ago. I played my Les Paul and in two songs my National Resolectric with my Bludotone EL 34 HRM 100 watt. I used an Loop-a-lator and a box with two Celestion G12-65. Audio and video is recorded only with a small Zoom recorder that´s positioned somewhere near the stage. Sorry that you can´t see the amp - the camera doesn´t move around. The Bludo EL 34 is my favourite amp in the moment (and as you know I own a Dumble ODS, too...). The amp has a great sound and is very dynamic. Hope you like the sound and the playing.

I purchased a set of transformers from Brandon a few years ago.
The pt was a twin transformer custom wound from Heyboer.
It had two 6 volt taps. One for heaters and one for relays.

What brand of caps has Brandon used, they look a bit like the typical Xicon stuff?

http://www.hotroxuk.com/xicon-caps.html

I'm sure he could use PS6 caps if he wished, they must sound quite decent in this circuit.

As far as the switching noise goes, the voltage regulator and the caps will wipe out any switching noise. The only thing to consider is the earth path, but if you follow HAD's layout there isn't a problem.
Yours Sincerely

They're NTE 630 Capacitors, which are most likely rebranded "CDE's"

Perhaps we are talking about different caps, but the attached pic clearly shows these two are Nichicons.
