Ang3lus, Looks like 10% resistors on your board. I hope you matched them
On the real Dumble builds HAD used 1% resistors.
I have found that Capacitors don't make a great difference it's the resistors.
On V-1 & V-2 and the PI you want exact voltages. Going to the next level matched current flow.

Have fun, Steve.

yes, i did match them, takes a bit more time, but i came to the same conclusion, unmatched resistors make a huge difference.

I haven't soldered anything almost to the board as of yet, as i'm still waiting on the wire and some more parts.

thanks Tony,

I might replace the PIO capacitors, as i count on your opinion, from my experience I just don't like orange drops caps, I might buy some mallorys if i don't like the PIO caps just to be on the safe side.

Or replace them later on when i tweak things.

do you have any experience with the cap being in the PI position ? does it also makes a bit of difference ?

Maybe you know this, but orange drops are just a name and many assume they are all the same because of the general shape and color. The SBE 6PS traditionally used in Dumble amps are polyester, where 715/716P are polypropylene. There is also the 225P series and numerous others, all orange but with polyester dielectrics which are similar to the 6PS. 6PS is the preferred cap due to its sonic quality.

is the 225p same as the 6ps ?

cause banzai music (where i will be ordering most of my parts from) has only that, or the mallory 150 (which is also poly)

scratch that, 225p seem to be 100v only on banzai, guess i will stick to mallory then.

6PS is a polyester cap, same as the Mallory 150. 6PS might be characterized by more focus and less smear in the midrange than the 150.

I have not had a very good experience with Mallory 150's in a D-style amp.
The amp sounded muffled and almost like there was a thin blanket over the amp, IMO. I have removed Mallory's and replaced them with Orange Drop PS and been much happier with the tone which sounded much more transparent to me.

I have had no issues using Mallory 150's in other amps and like them a lot in Marshallish style amps.

Just my 2 cents.

With respect, 10thtx

2 cents well spent.

Others have had the same result with Mallory 150s in Dumbles as well (I just reviewed a post on this very topic last night). To my ear, 150s sound a bit muffled in general and especially when compared to other polyester caps (Sozo, Mallory PVC, 225P). A critical part of the Dumble sound is the granular clarity in the midrange that the 6PS provides.

i might have to use orange drops then, since i've seen so many people recommened them on this topic.

I guess it's fair to give them a try in this particular circuit, which i never tackled before.

back to ordering parts then

Don't get hung up on the name orange drop. It's been horribly abused and mostly by guys that don't know what is inside; they just lump them in a category wholesale given that orange drops come in Fenders and Boogies and mustard/yellow caps come in Marshalls. It's usually the guys that play Marshalls that "hate" orange drops. Its the dielectric that counts! Most of 'em would never even have an opinion if they hadn't seen the inside of an amp they hate the sound of in order to form a bias.

SBE 6PS all the way with #102!

Sozo with Marshalls - oh yes.

I used a mix of ODs and Mallory in my Ab763 - sounds good

If you think the Mallory 150's are a dark cap Evil or Very Mad Try using P&O.. Shocked
I used NOS Russian paper in oils on one build and it's the most transparent and articulate of all my builds. No darkness at all.
I find them to be very clear sounding.715 orange drops are great too.
I find a little tweaking here and there is necessary with each cap type, but they all sound fine.Just ......different.
Crystal latice or vacuum, that is the question.

is this the right FET input jack ?

http://www.banzaimusic.com/Switchcraft-SC-14B.html

and what can be replaced with the NTE 452 JFET ? Can't find it anywhere.
