Re: 1st gen Combo....Rare!
Wow! Never seen a first gen combo before, I guess I assumed they were all heads like Lindley's.
Any idea of the serial no.?

It is number 0014 - 50 Watt
I do believe he bought it, according to his twitter.
I think that puts him up to 3.
He also has a trainwreck named Cybelle. Not sure what model it is though.

Re: 1st gen Combo....Rare!
Thanx Steve, so first gen goes up to at least #14. I assume this is a documented first gen.
I was under the impression first gens only went up to about #10. So #40 is second gen for sure, and somewhere between 14 and 40 they changed.
I could see some uncertainy because probably some first gens were later updated to second gen by HAD? We know HAD made some mods to one of Lindley's first gens.

Re: 1st gen Combo....Rare!
I don't know if this is documented as a 1st gen amp.
Tony, did you see something that tipped you off to this being a gen 1?
For some reason, I love the silverface chassis with the digital-type font.
I may have to design one up and have one fabricated....
Damn, another amp I now need to build.

Re: 1st gen Combo....Rare!
I know of one a few numbers up that is a 100w 2nd gen. Looks very much like this one.
Re: 1st gen Combo....Rare!
Steve..The tip off for me is both black chicken head knobs (2nd gen had mostly round silver ones) and the Font..I can't say for 100% certainty since nobody I know here knows for sure how many 1st gen's there are..steve_p wrote:I don't know if this is documented as a 1st gen amp.

Also I know Joe and he knows exactly what type of amps he has and would no doubt know if it's the same model as the one Dave used and on the FB page say's

#19, #20 and #27 have the same chassis style as well.
Also, didn't the early ones use the silver knobs. So having the pointer knobs might suggest that it has been updated? Just guessing.
Cheers,
Aaron

Re: 1st gen Combo....Rare!
Is there a contour cutout above the controls? I can't tell

#19 looks like a straight front, no contour cutout.
Re: 1st gen Combo....Rare!
Reportedly ODS #001 is the small combo withe the "STARVE" switch in the middle of the upper picture on the attached page of a book. And on a small picture on this attached page you'll see the back of a 4th generation ODS head sitting on the top of ODS #001. And as you'll probably see, the chassis of #001 has less width than the chassis of the 4th generation ODS amp sitting on the top of #001.

AFAIK the chassis of the 4th generation ODS amps have the same width as the chassis of the 2nd, 3rd, and transition generation ODS amps.
AFAIK the chassis of the 1st generation ODS amps are constructed a bit similar to the chassis of early Odyssey, Small Special and Winterland amps with separate (gold or silver) front plates and back plates. Here’s a picture of such a kind of construction: http://personalpages.manchester.ac.uk/s ... ial%20100/
AFAIK the 2nd, 3rd, transition generation, and most 4th generation ODS amps have a one piece chassis without separate front plates and separate back plates.
And IMO the picture of a small part of the back of #0014 posted here seems to show a one piece chassis without a back plate.
Cheers, and a lot of fun in 2014!
