Source for 20 AWG Solid Core PVC Hook Up Wire

Post by Charlie Wilson »

I am having trouble finding a source for 20 Gauge solid core PVC wire. I know a lot of builders are using Apex Jr., but it looks like his wire is Teflon. I did search through a bunch of posts but could not find specifically what I was looking for.

Alied wire is who I use. I normally buy 1000' rolls in teflon so not sure what their price is for PVC,

Also try Weico Wire and cable, comparable to Allied.

Thanks guys for the sources. I guess I was looking for the PVC solid core stuff because it seems to be what Dumble used originally. I should have asked what hook up wire do you guys like to use? I know that PVC can melt into a gooey mess if overheated and Teflon doesn't melt but is more difficult to strip. I don't want to get all EJ about it but are there any sonic reasons to use one over the other? It looks like the Teflon is going to be easier to source for smaller quantities.

Try digikey General Cable / Carol 1015 wire. You can get nice 600v solid core PVC. I like this UL1015 wire because, as far as PVC goes, it is pretty forgiving with heat. BTW, this is what Two Rock uses on their builds (at least it is what they were using a few years ago).

NOTE - I like this wire for the 18 AWG. I'm not a big fan of it in smaller gauges because the insulator is rather large and it doesn't hold its shape too well.

Just an FYI, you can buy as little as 1 ft of the McMaster Carr solid core offerings.

Make sure you get 600v wire.
