ODS TWEED DELUXE SETTING

If I can get into a place where I can crank the amp a bit I sometimes use this setting if I want to control the gain with my Vol knob! :D
Flip it to Jazz setting and leave it in OD. Input vol around 12 Oclock master 12 or 1 o'clock (30% tapers).Tone set to taste and the overdrive set for enough gain to give you some snarl (like a Tweed Deluxe cranked) with the guitar full up!
From that setting, I roll back my volume knob and the amp cleans up perfectly is touch sensitive with a bit of compression and bloom. Roll it up to bleed in more gain and full up for solos and the thing rips!..Of course you can do that on the rock side as well however IMO is harder to get totally clean and still have some headroom and volume as well is a bit more challenging to control. This works even better with my D-lator ( I actually prefer the clean tone better than just the straight clean channel!) My fave guitar to use on this setting is my stock AVRI Telecaster and all 3 pickup selector settings are clear and well balanced with the volume rolled back. From there if you want over the top just hit the boost take out the stack go to the bridge and it's off to the races. This IMO is how JB may be running his given he is constantly riding his Volume knob.
Your mileage may of course very

Tony,

Yes I use that method too, but in rock mode. I'm just surprised in Jazz mode it can compete with a dimed twin. If you listen when he goes between the dumble and the fenders, when he turns the Dumbles off there's a huge silence after all the noise of the amps. (edit: see post below)

It's great to see a pair of combo's out on the road though being used for their intended purpose.

I really respect Joe for what he's managed to achieve in this day and age.

years ago a friend of a friend of mine introduced him to Eric Clapton and from that Joe did the crossroads festival. Joe sent the friend a Les Paul as a thankyou.

OK, so I've sussed it out.

I'm in the studio today and fired up my 50w #102

If you look at the settings on JoBo's amps you'll notice that the 'deep' switch is in(up position) on my amp that's actually a mid switch so possibly is on his too.

When you're in Jazz mode flipping that switch up makes the difference between Jazz and rock very slight when using the OD, so it is in fact plenty loud with those settings, also note his ratio control is set around 1 o 'clock too so you're adding volume there too on OD, well not adding volume but it's louder than you'd probably have it if you were switching between clean and OD.

there you go ,you can use the jazz mode on the ODS :D

learned something new today :D

p.s. they do hiss/hum when left in OD with those levels :D I usually use clean and OD on the footswitch which means you don't really notice the noise, in a very quiet studio yo certainly do :D

well, as it's my post I can ramble on here as much as I like.

So been playing with the JoBo setting and making myself deaf!!! these amps certainly have an incredible amount of possibilities and this is a new one for me.

leaving in OD and playing my second gen combo through my 2x12 g12 65 cab I wasn't that happy with the OD in comparison with the 102. So I thought I'd swap the OD V2 tube. all I had was the famous 'Chinese unbranded' AX7 I'd had in the PI that I'd swapped out for the AT7. So out went the JJ and in went the Chinese valve.

Wow, night and day. Amp is sounding Killer now so thanks to this thread for more experimenting.

Also back to the video can everyone else hear the slight octave below thing going on at 39:45? I've had to send a couple of classic 80's back because of cone cry and that was the symptom albeit very noticeable. Also the dumble can sometimes give you an octave below overtone when really cranked I've found. It's subtle but I kind of think it's part of it's thing :D

you can perhaps tell I've got a few days off at the moment so I'm enjoying doing nothing for a change.

Marcus, maybe the octave below thing is the Chorus pedal which is always on before the input of each amp?

no, the chorus pedal just gives a very subtle stereo split to thicken the sound, what I'm hearing is subtle but I've heard it so many times before I recognised it immediately. It can be cone cry or sometimes the amps when driven hard can give sympathetic sort of 'ghost notes' .

I started getting into the Jazz setting when I had my amp wired up with the classic tone stack. With the deep engaged that was my favorite setting with that configuration. I've since started using Jazz mode with the Skyliner, albeit without the Deep setting (or mid boost). On the Skyliners you can just make up the gain by running the tone controls at higher settings than you would in rock mode. The mid control especially sounds nice real high in skyliner/jazz. It's more low mids.

here's a Kemper sound clip of my #102 50w with Joe's settings and my Tweedle Dee dimed. I added a slight chorus to separate them like Jo and used the Lehel P split too.
