The problem is Alexander is an artist in his mind and perhaps he is. A meeting with fender execs probably only fuels the reasons he won't take his designs public. I can imagine the first words. "We think we have a way to produce your amp for under $500 and still make a profit of about $162 a piece. Including the $2.24 we will pay you for each amp off the assembly line". Oh and they will bare the Dumble name with by fender right below. We will also call them "Hand Wired" because our sweat shop in mexico will apply a paper sticker that reads: Handwired and inspected by Lupe Garcia. So Alexander, are you ready to sign your life away?

"How to pay homage to someone like HAD?"

Hi Dave,

as I suggested before:

Find someone who knows him (some members here ovbiously do or did) and ask his friends, customers etc. instead of speculations. To ask a wife, husband, brother, sister, friend would not be such a bad idea when you are looking for a present, if you don't know someone very well.

If you think he might be insulted by money or Kruegerrands, I really think a donation to Santanas Childrens Foundation "Milagro", donated "In Honour Of Alexander Dumble", would not be a bad idea either.

Other options:

- Some members here could do some honour to HAD simply in remembering what their parents taught them concerning manners and respect, and behave themself a bit more like gentlemen when talking about HAD. Maybe there are other words than "the fat guy".

- Long time ago, when my guitar was still more active and his address no secret at all, I sent him some tapes with music of some guitarists that used his equipment. He wrote back: Thank you, lots of fun.

- Some musicians could honour HAD simply by staying true to the terms of the deal, when HAD agreed to built them an amp. They could have said "No" to these terms if they didn't like them. HAD didn't force anyone to buy an amp from him.
And I have heard of first owners who asked him first before selling their amps, and he was generous about this and even brought the first owner in contact with buyers of his preference, and serviced these amps before they changed hands and even tweaked them for the new owners.

- Some collectors could honour HAD in lending their amps to musicians, because making music is what the amps are made for.

- The members of this forum could honour HAD in remembering that they are very very very few first hand news about Alexander Dumble. Perhaps some members should be not so quick in spreading second hand news.

These are just some suggestions about how to pay homage to someone like HAD. And to find more suggestions will be a lot easier than to clone a Steel String Singer.

Cheers,

Max

What do you have to say about all the folks who sent their money and never recieved anything? How shall they honor Alexander (hasn't been Howard for decades)? Do they deserve equal podium time to tell about the stacks of letters full of excuses why he's never sent their gear?

What about the poor widow in the midwest who's husband died during the 8 year wait for his amp- His widow contacted Dumble and asked about the amp, and was oh so politeley told that the contract was with her husband, if he is deceased there IS NO AMP.

Thank you I will reserve my good manners for those who deserve it. My accounts are not legends or rumors, they are accounts from the people who have recieved this treatment.

Karma is a BITCH!!

and cloning a Steel String singer isn't that hard, wait and see.......

Hi Funkalicousgroove,

Sorry, but now I am a bit confused, so I ask you for some patience again:

I thought because of some earlier posts in this thread (yours and others'), that you do not clone Dumble amps and so do not feel to owe something to HAD?

But if you do not clone Dumble amps, how can you announce to proove ("wait and see....") that "cloning a Steel String Singer isn't that hard"?

What did I misunderstand in these earlier posts of yours and others?

Greetings

Max,

I think Funk may have been ticked off that you are continuing the tradition of web propaganda to minimize the reality of all those that have had bad experiences with HAD. I have personally heard many first hand accounts from the wronged individuals. Why do you try and say it is all unsubstantiated web BS?? It is not. If you did not have it happen, good for you, but if you were the wronged one then you would be pissed that people with agendas are saying it never happened.

As for me, I have never had any dealings with the man. I have heard plenty of good stories and also an equal number of bad stories. I have no axe to grind.

Hi dogears,

There is really a "tradition of webpropaganda to minimalize the reality of all those that have had bad experience with HAD"?

Seems that way ;)

Anyone who is either friendly with or has had pleasant dealings with HAD, post on the web about how all the negatives are just rumours and unsubstantiated third party stories. Why can't people accept there is another side? Happens on The Gear Page every so often.....

Me, I'd like to hang with HAD and do some jamming!!

Hi again Funkalicousgroove,

two more questions:

By whom do you feel to be appointed to be the appropriate judge to decide, what people "deserve"?

And shouldn't we all perhaps be very happy, that we ourself are so often treated better than we deserve?

Greetings,

Dear jurgen,

thanks indeed for this enlightening flash of insight, that finally opend my mind for the depth of wisdom of the great Non-Cloners.

How could I only dare to think, that the wise Ko-ans' of the art of Bludo could be inconsistencies?

And after this enlightenment (late is better than never!) now I feel realy sorry, that the original ODS (with Dumblelator!), that the Society Of Minimalizing The Reality Of All Those That Have Had Bad Experience With HAD has offered to bribe me, could tempt me to doubt the deep wisdom, that lies in calling HAD "The Fat Guy".

Of course after this late enlightenment I immediately turned down this secret society's (that is, as I found out in the meantime, allready the topic of very important X-Files) attempted brivery and promise to go back to lurking at once.

With deep regrets for disregarding the fact, that "Discussion" of course allways means a humble bow to the wisdom of the Big-Ones,

Clarity please - Is this one of those things like religion where one person is anxious to share his philosophy but then has no interest in hearing another point of view?

Guys,

There's lots of differing opinions on HAD.
Almost none of us know him personally.
So it's all inuendo (and that's not an italian suppository!)

He may be a nice guy.
He may be a card carrying asshole.
He may be old and sick and over it all.
He may be an asberger's tube idiot savant.
He may be whatever...

Without him this whole area would not exist.

Let's all cool down 8)

Gee, it's not like Gary Moore is involved

No, he's not, but why do I get the distinct impression that he has evolved into Max? This is one of "those threads" that has turned into one person assuming the moral superiority (alledgedly) high ground and trying to beat everyone else over the head with his sanctity.

Max, dude, it is time to give this all a rest. Please.

This is the kind of thing that will get this forum locked and non of us want that, do we?
