New dumble build, advice?

I still really like the Celestion Classic lead 80 if you're going 1x12 .The g12-65 sound good in a big 2x12 cab but I don't like them on their own. Also the Celestion Alnico cream works great with a 50w 102 as well , a bit smoother with a more scooped tone. An old EVM 12 L or S is a great speaker too I think they need driving though to get the best from them and they're an efficient speaker anyway so you'll be quite loud.

Actually the lead 80 was what I was going to put with it if I did a 50w, I had a vhtd50 for a bit and was playing it through a cream which was good but the low end was lacking and then a fellow brought over a cab with one in it and it sounded great with that speaker, it just seemed everyone was saying how much better the 100w dumble are so I was going to build one of those, however it really limits your speaker choices.

Maybe a guy should do a 50, I have the 100w ot already though, any I could double the PI and use it but it I doubt it would sound right

The build starts! Going to to 50w with my 100w OT so I can swap it to 100 down the road if I feel its necessary, mostly finished the cab, went with tolex and diamond GC just need the handle to show up..

My advice to you would be
Don't dick around! go right for the 100w and put a 50 w switch on it if it will make you feel better, but will most likely never use..

If you like the beautiful clean tones then 100w is a requirement in my opinion. My 50w gets crunchy at stage volume if the drummer is really hitting... I've learned to take the 100w for outdoor gigs and with certain drummers.

The cost savings isn't worth it and wiring the extra 2 power amp tube sockets only adds like an hour or so to the build time.

Totally agree. I wouldn't bother with the 50/100 switch though. If you want to experience the 50W just pull the 2 outer tubes

Alright 100w it is, thanks guys I appretiate the advise. I wasnt trying to dick around , just thinking of speaker choices, and the above comment that 12l style speakers take a bit of power to wake up, thinking it may make it more versatile and useful at lower volumes as well.

A 100W with an old EV12L is a good match (quite cheap for what it is but look for a good condition one).

If you like some speaker “crunch” a Classic 80 might be an option.
I found the EV more smooth in the mids.

Yea Id love a CL80, but probably a bad Idea if I do a 100w'er also Im in Canada, so makes getting used speakers a bit tougher, especially older ones like those. I'm thinking I'll buy both a em12 and a redback and keep whichever I prefer in it. Vids like these Im leaning towards the celestion, however in person and with this amp who knows..
