Hey Martin,martin manning wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 7:30 pm Fantastic! I think we've all been there before... ;^)
after some further testing, I really dig the step filter with your configuration. I mean, I have no comparison to the original one, but this is excellent for shaping the tone to different cabs/guitars etc.
The amp works really great now with my Three Musketeers - Keeley Comp+, TC Spark Booster, Nobels ODR1.
Last thing to do, FET-Boost, just to make it complete.
Cheers

Good to hear, Thanks! TAG now has a good guide for the mods to R Colgan's layout, and Erwin V's PCB.
Great sounds and playing there!
What have you got planned there? What FET, Vdd, and bias?
Re: #002 Steel String Singer - almost there
I'm not sure yet. The suggested transistors for the original FET are hard to get and expensive. There is a project in a German DIY tube amp forum called LND Boost, which is very promising.martin manning wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 11:42 am

Can you get 2N4416A? Mouser carries that one, should be fine for traditional D FET boost.
Re: #002 Steel String Singer - almost there
Yes but 20 bucks for the delivery. No way...martin manning wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 2:34 pm Can you get 2N4416A? Mouser carries that one, should be fine for traditional D FET boost.

Any e-Bay sellers have them or 2N3823? You might get a few for a reasonable price.

Re: #002 Steel String Singer - almost there
I have a 12V tap left on the transformer, so I'm not bound the FET or the LND boost.martin manning wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 11:42 am

look at reichelt.de… they offer some in TO-92 package, real cheap enough to try some of them if they suit your taste…
Search for „jfet“ on their site, than narrow down to „N“ type

Re: #002 Steel String Singer - almost there
Not quite sure what you mean there, but if you have a 12VAC source then you will need a rectifier and filtering to make that usable for a transistor boost. The Dumble JFET or the LND boost could be powered from B+5.
Re: #002 Steel String Singer - almost there
I think it is given, that you need a rectifier and filtering and some kind of voltage regulator. On the long run, I want the boost to be footswitchable anyway. The FET boost by it's own is not usable for me if I have to stick the cable from one input to the other. But I'll give the FET a try.martin manning wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 4:04 pmNot quite sure what you mean there, but if you have a 12VAC source then you will need a rectifier and filtering to make that usable for a transistor boost. No 2N4416A there...I can order some other types, stick them in and look what happens...Raja_Kentut wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 4:03 pm look at reichelt.de… they offer some in TO-92 package, real cheap enough to try some of them if they suit your taste…
