I’m getting ready to start a head cabinet for my amp build but wanted to ask a few questions before I get going.
Are the grill cloth screen below the chassis and the front of the chassis usually set back the same amount from the front of the cabinet? In some pics it looks like the front of the chassis is set back just a hair further than the screen, but it could be an optical illusion from the piping. How far are they usually set back? It looks like 3/4” or 7/8” in most of the pics I’ve seen.
How far is the front of the chassis set back from the cutout above the controls? 1/4? I’m trying to figure out how deep to make that cutout.
Thanks, guys!

Re: Cabinet questions
Hi James
I’m not sure I completely understand the question, but I’ve built all mine with the front of the chassis 3/4” (20mm) back from the grill cloth, and the chassis about 1/4” (3-5mm) set back from the cutout. The grill cloth I set at around 5-8mm back from the cabinet front.

Thanks, Tim!
I wanted to mark up a pic I have to help make it more clear, but couldn’t quite figure it out in the iPhone.

Re: Cabinet questions
Ok, so forgive this very primitive markup.
Is this roughly correct?
Screen set back apprx 8mm or 3/8” from front of cabinet.
Chassis set back apprx 1 1/8” from front of cabinet, and about 1/4 from the cutout above it.
I just want to be in the ballpark so it doesn’t seem completely off, LOL.

Re: Cabinet questions
Yup. Personally I prefer the "baffle" closer to the front, but I think it's just to taste. Keep an eye on clearing the distance to the metal corners if you do bring it forward.
Here are photos of one of mine - the metal is 20mm wide, baffle 18mm + grill cloth, and I ran the metal strip flush with the metal corner. (mine is without wood brace, but that wouldn't change the front-to-back distance).
Also - remember to counter sink for your metal corner holes before tolexing.
