Bought a cause & effect amps #102 style clone

Post by sunnys141 »

Hey folks, thought I'd post here since it's kinda relevant to the forum and I've learned a good deal about dumble amps from here 9even though I'm no EE).

So I've been looking for a dumble clone for a while and after a lot of searching, I got chatting with Mark Roberts, one of the co-founders of Cause & Effects pedals and amp works. The company isn't around any more but I know they were pretty active here some years ago, building chassis, pedals and also d style amps (hardwired and PCB).

I met up with Mark a few weekends ago and ab'ed a couple of his amps (a handwired HRM 100w Bluesmaster and this #102) for nearly 2 hours and decided to go with his PCB #102 Dumble clone build. It was an almost instant, "there's the tone!" with that #102.

It had that smooth but still edgy OD channel that was instantly there and didn't need a whole lot of dialing in. Also, as a bonus, it has a couple of different reverbs built in. Including a Robben Ford inspired verb+delay setting that I've been enjoying (minimum delay + short verb). It also has a buffered effects loop.

Also, I bought the 1x12 from Mark as well. Has a really well broken in WGS ET65. Love the all black look!

I actually read through Mark's (and a few other people's) build logs. Really interesting!

Anyway, thought I'd share because mark used to post here fairly often. He also provided me with a manual he wrote for C&E amps and also the schematic. He was super helpful!

Very cool, congrats! Is the effects module built around a FV-1 DSP? Sure looks like it with what I assume is a socketed EEPROM .

Thank you :) I'm not completely sure if that's how the effects module works but the manual Mark provided says the amp includes an EEPROM driven effects module and he did mention the term FV-1 DSP in our email thread.

Very exciting, please keep us updated! I have a C&E overdrive pedal...and I'm a #102 / Robben Ford obsessed fan. Is your amp something that this could be commissioned / build for others? Not that I have the money to purchase...but I can dream, lol.

Excited for you! Keep us in the loop...would love to hear clips if possible! :-)
