Amazing video!
Cool to see that this is using the longer style power tubes and opposed to the shorter stubby 6L6GC-STR style power tubes.

Cheers

Thanks for sharing, this looks like grail era for sure. 100W. Ungooped resistors are mostly Q-Lines/dralorics. Looks like corning metal film screen resistors? 300uf mains filters for effective 150uf capacitance. Cap can for v1 and v2 filters with a metal film dropper. LNFB at v1. Tandy (or probably the unmarked) black coax. Piher trimmers for OD entrance and PI balance (5k). Bourns trimmer on the FET board. Tantalum presence cap.

Unclear if it is a low plate classic or was later converted to a skyline spec?

My pure conjecture is that this may be a skyline amp, as he seemed to leave this one in storage in favor of Lindley's #008, #093, or his 7th gen silver chassis Green tolex combo but for him.

Just saw the news that Brian Wilson passed, may he rest in peace.

Hi Max, thanks for sharing that. I had forgotten about the whole fake amp debacle with Mason....

Do you think it is possible/probable though that Brian Wilson had a 50W and a 100W amp? It seems odd that Ben would misread the serial number on the back of the chassis right in front of him. Also #97 (the real one) has the sesame street block style DUMBLE logo on the back, but #109 has the script Dumble logo more like the overdrive special font on the front (similar to the fake #97). You can also see that there are 2 sets of serials stamped on #109 . And it is, at least now, a 100 W amp. There is also the writing on the back of the speaker of #97 but not #109. Maybe they were both white tolex combos later covered in that carpet stuff.

Dumble built these amps for The Beach Boys and then their tech decided to cover the white tolex with the ugly black carpet. I guess he didn’t like the look of them after they had some wear. Dumble was not happy about that and it was the end of Dumble and The Beach Boys. RIP Brian Wilson.

Very cool to hear Ben tell the story behind this. You can tell HAD really meant a lot to him.

Also, is this the first time anyone has taken the chassis out on a Dumble for a circuit board gut shot (even it if is a brief glimpse) and had it filmed? I can't recall any other video showing the insides of a real Dumble like that.

Thanks for the screenshots!

Apparently, A. Dumble made at least two Overdrive Specials for the Beach Boys, namely #0097 50W ("A Dumble Book" pages 227 and 228 and https://www.gbase.com/powered/overland- ... -special-1) and #0109 100W (https://www.fretboardjournal.com/featur ... d-lindley/). Whether they originally both had combo cabinets completely covered in white Tolex, or whether only the two rear panels were originally covered in white Tolex, I don't know.

It's not uncommon for Dumble serial numbers to be incorrectly stamped and corrected (e.g. SSS #002 https://www.gbase.com/powered/overland- ... ing-singer). Some "transition generation" ODS chassis had no stamped serial numbers at all, but printed ones (e.g. #0075, #0077, #0079), and some of these "transition generation" ODS chassis without stamped serial numbers didn't even have printed serial numbers (e.g. Hoyt Axton ODS). And the fact that different Dumble model designations are usually associated with different serial number ranges, and the same serial number can therefore appear multiple times on Dumble amps (e.g. Odyssey #020, #023, #025 vs. Overdrive Special #0020, #0023, #0025), sometimes may cause additional confusion.
