Relay PS Board

Post by benoit »

I'm building all my own boards out of G10 and was wondering if anyone had a good working layout for a non PCB relay supply for full bridge -> 1000uf -> 12v regulator -> 1000uf.

This may not be much help, but here is one I built for my Fender. I suppose you just need to re-arrange the components to match the Dumble arangement (which I believe would be the same as Brandon's board shown below mine) and put the connecting wires on the bottom of the board.

I don't know where the eyelet on the upper left goes to. The one below it goes to one LED and the lower left corner goes to the other LED (from the 1k resistors). The two on the upper right go to the transformer. The farthest right on the bottom is ground and the one to its left goes to the 12v regulator. The third down from the top on the left side goes to one leg of the regulator, then to the relays.

You have the 12v schematic already, right?

Yep. Are those resistors on the board the 1k ones that go to pins 1/5 on the FS jack?

Exactly.

I have been collecting HRM info, I will build one at some time in the near future but have been following yours closely for now.

Here is on that I used for my d-clone a couple of years ago.

It uses an in-line (BR801) bridge rectifier. You only need 100uf or so of filtering.

That I can help you with. There are two eyelets for the negative end of that second 1000uF cap because it goes two places: to the footswitch via the 1k resistors and to the relays themselves.

That makes sense.

Have you all seen the 4 relay board offered by Weber?
It's got 4 relays all powered off half of the heater supply. I installed one using only three of the four relays and it works great.

Here is a link to a picture of the unit.

It's called: CHANSW-4-LP=KIT

That looks interesting. My only concern with that would be that switching might affect the heater supply, I've heard of people running into that. I've already got a 12v transformer for this build anyway but I'll have to remember those are there.

I can't say if using the heater supply is bad, but every schematic and innards picture I have seen of a real Dumble shows a separate transformer for the relays. Even the lowly #40 has a complete transformer and power supply (though, without the 12v regulator) for its single relay.

The relay board works very well and does not effect the heater supply.
My intentions were to show a pre-built relay board with four relays. I guess you could run it off a separate low voltage transformer.

That is a good point about running it off a seperate transformer and I'm not positive that there's anything wrong with using the heater supply. I will definitely remember this board is around.
