G12-65/Gold combination

Post by JamesO »

I know, I know, another speaker thread.

I'm deciding between a G12-65 in an open backed 1x12 cabinet, OR a G12-65/Gold combo in an open-backed 2x12. I'm looking for a warm, sweet sound.

The 12-65/Gold combo would double as a cabinet for my Vox head, which is why it's attractive to me. I'm currently pairing a Blue Dog with a G12H for the Vox, and I love the sound.

I have a G12-65 on hand, so the combo would be the least out of pocket expense; if using the same cab for both amps is a compromise, I'll order a 1x12 for the 12-65.

After looking at my expenses, ordering another 2x12 and a 12-65 is just too expensive right now, even though that would be ideal.

I have a 112 with a Gold and it is the best allround I have tried.

I used to have a G12-65 but the gold is nicer I think, certainly on cleans and is a bit tighter with the bass

I am told the G12-65 rocks nice with the DC30 which is what I also have

So I think G12-65 and gold would be excellent.

Hi

Has anyone compared the Scumbacks models and the Celestion Hertiage GH 12 65 models and the Gold ?

I too have a 1x12 cabinet with a celestion gold matched up with my d'lite 22/33 running 6l6WGB's and the one thing that I have noticed is that it's sounds awesome when I am playing with the overdrive channel, but find that it sounds "Boxy?" when playing cleans. I guess I was comparing it to my friends Two Rock 2x12 signature cab with G12H30s in it, but I was wondering if my ears have gone bad or if it's the unfair comparison of a 1x12 semi open back cab to a 2x12 semi open back cab? I agree that it's a warm sweet speaker, but I also felt like I lost a bit of the high and low frequencies ... very nice mid range tones. Is the G12-65 or the EVM 12L a better 1x12 speaker for a mixture of full range BIG warm cleans (not that glassy sterile sound), and a nice warm crunch (or does that combination in a speaker not exist, or is that what you would get in combining the gold with a G12-65?) 8)
Okay, okay ... it sounds cool, but does it look cool?
