There's no discernible change in clean channel timbre when varying HF taper between 68k and 168k (the range of my integrated drive/hf taper pot). For my purposes it's working perfectly. There's plenty of sparkle to the clean compared to the OD.

Aaron, it seems to roll off way more highs off of the OD than the clean side. I just was surprised because it shouldn't interact with the clean side. Even with a 100 pf cap I noticed it.

Definitely weird. At first I thought the clean was actually getting slightly BRIGHTER as I decreased the resistance to the cap, but the more closely I listened the more I realized that it was just my ears playing tricks on me. I haven't tried lifting the cap entirely, though.

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around how the HF taper could affect the clean tone. Even if you had the relay wired the "old" way without the OD entrance grounded the cap seems completely isolated from the signal. Unless you were doing something odd like just shorting out the OD network with an SPST it doesn't seem possible.
