Thanks, Jim!

I'm not sure what you listened to, but more than likely it was a Blankenship Variplex 50w. Either that or my '68 plexi 100w. The Variplex is a clone of a nice '68 50w, so I've used them intermittently. Both are 'stock' with no master-volumes or gain knobs....just turn 'em all the way up!

Suhr sent me an OD100 to try once and it was nice, but not really my thing. I like the power-amp to be jacked and it was more a pre-amp/power-amp thing. He and I have talked about doing a nice non-master plexi-type head, which I suppose we'll get around to one day.
The only non-master-volume amps I've liked were a couple of Dumbles which were a different flavor from my old Marshalls in a cool way.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy that.
The studio recording of Asian Beauty is a Variplex. Live, I used the variac to turn the volume down a bit, with no Hot Plate. I do use a Hot Plate with the 100w plexi live, but not for the studio.

Most of these recordings currently may be found at the now quite numerous online providers of audio and video under the names of the musicians/bands or under the individual album/song titels.

thanks Max,

certainly your's references to a clip on youtube are more specific and show the artists or bands using "that amp".

Searching the web eleven years after your research is going to take me a lifetime. :D

I would have liked to hear exactly the model you refer to in your detailed analysis, but youtube cancels or changes the classification of clips after a few years.

I will search by artist / song title as you suggest.

Thank you
