It depends on one's perspective and if you polish the King's boots or was "exploited and profited from" by him. For some, I'm sure it's viewed as an ironic reparation for past deeds.

I couldn't be any happier for Brandon's sucess, the King could certainly take some lessons from him on how to treat people.

I'm crawling back in my hide now before I get in trouble.

IMO this rule of the hosts of this discussion meeting is easy to understand:

"Nobody is entitled to free info or support. By keeping things amicable here, the support will likely continue. As it stands now, I have received several PMs asking me to post this... Please play nice."

Source: http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=63656#63656

And IMO it is not a matter of discussible "ethics" to behave as a guest just as asked by the inviting hosts, but simply a matter of some good manners and some additional common sense.

Have a great weekend and lots of fun,

Max

You can't compare his amps to dumbles. They don't sound the same. Not that he wants to- he is building 'his' amps, and they sound great. Haven't heard any clips that sound like what we were used to, and that's a good thing.

Hi butwhatif,

What shall "...what we were used to..." mean?

I may be wrong, but didn't HAD, "exploited and profited from" Leo Fender ? Isn't all progress building upon what came before it. My high school theory teacher was fond of saying "Good composers borrow but great composers steal".

I think this is a wonderful place..

Where else are you going to go where you can get first hand accounts of the different era amps complete with clips and pic's presented by Max who I personally wish to thank..That work takes time..Also for Scott for his enormous contribution here along with some wonderful clips.... Gil remember 124 ..All the other pro builders out there who put up there time to help out ..Allot of these guy's have been here for YEARS!! and posted a TON of great work..
The body of work discussed here throughout the years is more info than you will ever need to build a KILLER D-Style amp from vertually any generation and more valuable than yes a schematic of Robben Ford's amp ..We are past that!

Be grateful
Tony

The point is simple.

What is good for gesse is good for ganders....

All of Brandon's secrets are really just Dumble secrets he is profiting from...

Nothing wrong with that until people start calling Dumble circuits...."Brandon's secrets"

Then we have a conflict of interests, one of a guy who sells Dumble secrets in amp form, the other of DIY people who want to build for themselves an amp based on a Dumble.

That is all... I get bothered by this idea that you all would rip Howards ideas off but should Brandon learn of something first you'll call it "his secret" and protect his interests at all costs.....even if that means short changing this place...Which is the place that gave rise to those you now wish to protect.

It is a self defeating effort too!
This place should be:
"All things Dumble"
and not
"All things Dumble save that which some other guy doesn't want us to talk about cause he is making bank form it"

Not trying to piss everyone off....it just happens when uncomfortable things are brought to the surface...

hmm...there is a loose group of guys who have been into several Dumble products and they have shared with each other (in varying degrees) behind the scenes...before TAG existed...and continue to do so. I'm not one of them, btw. Some of the them post here. Some don't. To the best of my understanding, they were almost all pretty much making their livings as repair techs before the great goo-break. Today, some are making a decent enough living making ODS amps in various forms...all done at various levels of business complications...i.e. all by themselves as a side-job vs. having employees.

I don't know how you break into the club, however, I suspect that doing a lot of your own tweaking experiments, then showing up a these amp shows with your amps, would be a place to start.

Nik was a helpful & early vendor at 18Watt.com He has his place in this. Less disparagement, please. "Those Brown Note guys" don't catch flak here, but they do other places, for pretty much the same resons. It's what it is. Try to be kind first.

Lets all respect everyone's builds. No one copied anyone. All great amp builders had to borrow ideas from somewhere.

Fender borrowed his ideas from old tube amp books.(and apparently borrowed the telecaster from bigsby) Jim Marshall borrowed his ideas from fender, so did dumble. Randall smith (Mesa boogie) borrowed his ideas from Dumble's ODS.

The way I see it the builders here (Brandon included) have done the same thing. We take amps that we know work, build them and then tweek them to our preferences.

No ones amps are better than anyones elses (unless they flatout dont work) Different amps meet different peoples preferences, there is no right and wrong and there is no better or worse.

True builders dont "bank" on anything. They simply want to share their sound and evolve their skills. From what ive seen most builders charge a fair price for their hand built hand tuned amplifiers. Dumble charges alot more because he can. It's simple supply and demand.
It's true i've lost my marbles and i cant remember where i put them

Ampdork, How do you know that for sure?

Knowledge is an ongoing evolution. Some take what others did before and improve upon it to come up with better ideas. HAD used others' ideas and improved upon them (some think) . Others use HAD's. That's life, get over it.

Please....your playing with semantics.
This forum exists because of one man....his name is right at the top of the Forum....DUMBLE....

In other words all i am saying is anything brandon does learn from real Dumble amps do not become his possessions....they do not magically become "Brandon's secrets".....that is all...

Yet people are here ready to defend that right....which I find foolish and self defeating....is the purpose of this place to share real Dumble info or just to keep it in the hands of an elite group and out of the hands of those deemed "riff raff"?

Anyway dumb discussion that can't go anywhere positive without all sorts of ruffled feathers...

To answer the OP it is called running a business....which is why I think some need to rethink this idea of "Oh so and so did this....this other so and so never came around, never said hi, never thanked so and so"
Maybe those so and so's were already busy running a fulltime business?
Maybe now people are seeing that once your struggling with that hanging around the amp garage is not nearly as possible as it once was when it was just a "hobby"...

Like Nik from Ceriatone....often bashed for not "sharing" ....never any consideration for the fact he is a man running an actual business with employees and all....might merely be he was too busy to hang about?...

And frankly who other than Dumble can complain if the guy uses every damn dumble "secret" in the book?

Uh no one?....exactly!

Anyway whatever....I have amps to build myself so I can't hang out and discuss the finer details of why and how this place get the short end of the stick.

Too busy to cater to chit chat..

Again I will say the amp builders are not hurting for any information about Dumble amps of all kinds....but this place gets none of it....all due to this notion of some kind of vanguard over a holy grail...

For the record I AM over it .

Shad,

What the heck are you talking about??

First of all, this is a private member only FREE forum. There is no short end of the stick here. It is a not an entitlement to be given all info. What is shared is shared and if someone feels they deserve more than is shared, they can fuck off or privately bartar for info exchange if they have super secret info.

Secondly, Nik is an ungrateful leach. He joined here and never ever posted. No thanks... All the other members have contributed in some small way. This is a community. Nobody is asking Nik to divulge info. Just say hi. This is a community. He is like a pedophile sneaking behind the bushes and spying in the window. He should just ring the doorbell and enter hang out for a minute. I am sure he is a nice guy. It is just rather seedy to lurk and never post, yet his entire line is based on info from this forum. He found the time to join, login, lurk, download, yet no comments?

Do you disagree with my sentiment? Whether or not we see eye to eye, you post. He doesn't. If I had my way, he'd be banned.

Lastly, even if Brandon's secrets are Dumble circuit secrets, he is not obligated to post them. I think the phrase "Brandon's secrets" is just that. Semantics and all.

No different than Shad's secrets. Like the Tag amp....

A lot of info is not posted; there just may be promises made to the amp owners about not publically posting. Plenty is shared here if you read the threads and plenty of help is offered. Many suggestions posted just may be based on some of that info.
