He waited at least 6 years for the amp. According to Mike, it is a 6L6 with HRM. He did not know whether it is a Bluesmaster. He mentioned it being a hybrid of stuff from the Ultraphonix and others. He went to Alexanders a bunch of times to tune and tweak it.

Hope this helps.

Imho silverface looks better, don't know why, but there's something in old Dumbles that make them more interesting (talking about look, not tone), but again, that's just my personal feeling.

Hi,

AFAIR most self-help books on shopping often recommend reading before signing.

Cheers,

Max

That is the single most fantastic contract i have ever seen!!!

In effect, pay me, and I will, at my sole discretion, decide if you piss me off or not, and then supply/not supply the product depending on that decision. Oh and don't ring me on any day of the week ending in a "y"; that's guaranteed to piss me off...

If only I could get my building clients to sign one...

As I remember it the contracts that Max posted are the ones from Gil Ayan's correspondence with HAD in 1994. Could we say that HAD was in his prime in the 90s?

Fast forward twenty years:

1. With the deciphering of the design
2. The resulting competition
3. Lawsuit?
4. The apparent dissatisfaction of many clients

And the Internets ability to make this information common knowledge.

Makes me wonder if HAD is still using the same contracts??

Clearly a contract from before the internet.

A small side note
The contract doesn't say anything about the legal situation concerning a Dumble product, when the original purchaser is deceased. The copyright constrictions are only related to the original buyer.

Looks like a DIY contract - not a layer ditto.
Diva or not? - Respect for Mr. D's work....)

I think the world is too big for 'bad' publicity to make any difference. A forum like this, though seemingly publishing point 1 regularly, and point 4 seldom, only adds to fame.

We all know Angelina Jolie is a 'very hard woman to get along with' , but you would think twice about knocking her back, and at the very least be bragging for the rest of your life one way or the other!!!

Fame is seductive to those who seek it and those who buy it.

Musicians trade on fame, I doubt having the amp SRV used or Robben uses on your backline is likely to become uncool any day soon, unless of course HAD started fooling with kids, but even ol' MJ got over that one...sort of.

His contracts are probably TWICE as good. I've already copied that "don't piss me off" clause and put it up the back of our paperwork under, "Miscellaneous" . That's like printing money; now I know the guy is a genius!!!

Seriously though, it really makes me laugh that anyone would sign that. But you know what? I bet they are like never before...

Andy, probably you are right, and collectors seem to be attracted by such fame, too. In the early nineties AFAIR some Japanese collectors have been willing to pay around twice the price of an "usual" used Dumble amp for a Dumble amp that has been used by players with some fame and/or for some hit records. AFAIR David Lindley as an example asked 100.000 for one of his ODS and Maverick is now asking around the same amount for the Farris/Mr. Mister "Welcome To The Real World" amp: http://www.maverick-music.com/vintage-a ... eve-farris. Seems to be similar to what is known in regard to "celebrity owned" vintage guitars.

@dreric:

AFAIK price theory: Current prices for a new custom ordered Dumble ODS, SSS, etc. - AFAIK being currently much higher than in the 90ies Dumble price list - aren't an indicator for decreasing demand.

After reading that contract, I concluded HAD has good qualities found in some of the great dictators, past and present.

Deposit- haha, it was to be paid all up front via cashiers check.

#04- was an additional $700 in 1989.

Price-the price was directly related to the lead time and of course the most expensive price was the quickest delivery time.
That's not a problem in itself, however I remember being "encouraged" that it would be in my best benefit not to choose the slowest delivery time.

I was thinking to myself over the phone, damn this dude is shaking me down............
