Tony, what's the problem?
Just tell one of his friends that you would like to be introduced to Alexander as you would like to order an ODS because you want to find out how to build an ODS with current parts.
Tony, I'm going to convert my 124 to a 102 but I don't have any Sprague Q-line resistors. I could use Pihers. What differences tone-wise? I've used Pihers and like them, smooth & quiet, but have no experience with Q-Lines. They seem to be the proverbial hen's teeth, no-one has them.
I think I would also change the OT from a Mag Components Twin to a real 100W OT. I have one of Dr. Eric's NOS Bassman 100 but I'm putting that in a 100W SSS build. M-C make a reasonably priced Marshall 100W OT but would a Marstran or a Mercury Magnetics do better in the 102?
The PT is a M-C Twin but I have a Heyboer designed for a 465V #183 circuit also.

I hope you are well!!..I have not tried the Q-lines yet..Perhaps Shad can jump in here and offer his opinion on those.. Personally I have walked away from the good and the bad point of view..I try to look at things now as just different.. The 102 I just build is a wonderful tone, but it does not do what my 2nd gen or my Music man does and those use different resistors..All I can say is like you the Piher are real smooth and articulate (not really very good at Rock type tones) So if smooth is your requirement Piher it.. (BTW..and IMO.. A good carbon comp like the AB's are smooth as well but really lack the top end articulation of the CF Piher and as you know has shot noise)..
As for the transformers... All of those you mentioned are well made fairly consistent sounding transformers..I know the MC just had a pretty good jump in price so I wouldn't call them cheap now..I think this is due to their recent upgrade to better copper perhaps oxygen free.. I think they give the MM a run for their money personally..
These days I am hesitant to pick any 1 transformer and say this will get you there.. The Bassman 100 does sound good in my 102 but I don't think it is the soul reason behind how it sounds the way it does and don't consider it an exceptionally good sounding Xformer..
Another reason is consistency!!..I look at these the same way I do guitars.. If you get one from a reputable source that has been at it a while and has a good reputation chances are you will get a decent sounding set..Every once in a while you might get lucky and bump into a set that sounds extraordinary, a perfect fit for that amp..This goes for both power and output.. I can say that I have had the best luck with an overall consistently good sounding set from both Mercury and Magnetic components..Around 1 in 30 you will bump into that holy cow set.. IMO..
Good Luck with the build!!

Tony, Glad you found the tone, vibe. You were looking for in #102.
On the real #102 the OPT was a Pacific Marshall clone sold by New Sensor.
My #102 used Magnetic Components Iron, no matter what I did, it sounded
Like the oats that ran through the horse.

I have some Q-Lines, but I had to trade a unicorn and the leprechaun I caught to get em though.
Tony, thanx for the detailed response. I just sold my #124 this afternoon so I'll have to do a 102 from scratch now.
Been thinking about a #60 as I've heard excellent buzz about its tone, except for the reverb. #60 has an odd two-tone clean set-up, V1A is 180k/1K, V2A is 130K/1K8. No rule of 66 here!

TM the other day I saw a Mermaid selling Q-lines for a quarter a piece..
Let us know how they do!!... Hey PM me your address..

Dave Funny I was just skowering through the same amp.. That mixer circuit looks kinda funky!!
