Don't worry about hijacking the thread. Threads featuring Tag aka Mr Dumble are always the same and end the same.
1. Mr Dumble hears "something" in his amp(s) it is good. He names the something.
2. Others try and hear it to, some can some can't.
3. We argue over the "something".
4. Sometimes there is valuable information in the arguing, sometimes not.
5. Mr. Dumble who heard the "something" rejects everyone else's impressions or perceptions of the "something". Stating once again, and again, justo to make sure that we know (in case we forgot) that ONLY his amps contain the "something".
6. Mr. Dumble challenges all builders except Dumble and Shad to make an amp that duplicates the "something" to his standards.

it's always the same.....................
Eric
Eric,
Like USUAL, I stated what I heard, and provided a clip specifically pointing it out. Yea, some hear it, and some do not. Like USUAL, I thanked those for helping me understand technically what I was hearing. Like USUAL I am going to state what amps "I" have heard it in. It actually helps me understand why I like certain Dumbles and D style amps, and not others. I stated "I" need that "thing" that SOME Dumbles do. Some probably dont even want that. Scott says he loves the heavy feedback thing. GREAT! Does 183 do that? I dont even know, because I have never tried to get it, nor do I care. You dont see me posting clips to "prove" it can do it, because it means nothing to me.
Suggestion to you. Dont read my threads or posts. Like always, it seems you are only going to get your feelings hurt again. Now lets cut the personal BS and keep this on track.

I am trying to get a handle on the Dumble thing as I would like to build one. Just want to build the best one for me. I think it may be #183. Still not sure what the difference in tone is from say #124. Which one is Larry Carlton using that you tube vid ?
Any opinions will be much appreciated. Sorry if I hijacked this thread.
ChrisM wrote:Yo Tag why do you like your 100W amps to be quiet?
Yo Chris,
#1: Show me a post anywhere on the net where I have said that. If you cant find it, I would appreciate your being a man and saying you are stating false information. On the other hand, if you can find one, I will glady answer you!
#2: What does that have to do with this thread? Are you trolling or intentionally trying to derail the thread?
Tag, not speaking for Chris but I'd guess he's asking because it seems most of the pics of your's and your buddies amps have the master volume turned all but off. It just seems odd, that's all. I think it's an honest question.

I am waiting for your response!
I would not know about trolling Tag. Do you know anything about the topic?
#1 You started a thread about Scott and how you two compared amps. You got me, you never said you liked quiet amps. I do have this quote though.
dogears wrote:
I do agree Tag's clone sounded great at the whisper low levels he likes!! As well as sounding great at louder levels.
Once we dialed in the mule I brought, still far from optimal since mine is setup for one specific volume level playing live with a band, it sounded very good. Tag even agreed. However, it was unuseable at the Tag volume levels. Not only was the master too low, I had the Dumbleator almost off!!!
It was then mentioned a few other times how you considered how loud Scott like things (I always thought 100W were loud too ). So it seems you set yours to a very reasonable volume (I won't say bedroom ).
So ya just wondering why you like quiet 100W amps with the master set low. I also found you get better tone as you turn up the MV. The amp tends to "open" up and you get more of that sustain, blooming, feedback, noteflipiing and all that other monkey crap....

Fair question! Because most of the clips I am making right now are in a 10X12 room. I have always maintained that the same amp I use live, is the same amp I am going to practice with, so ALL of my amps have to sound great at all levels. I am glad to say that Dumbles, or at least the tones I like from them, are pre amp based. #183 had the best MV of any amp I have ever owned. I could get KILLER tones so low, you had to put your ear right next the cab to hear them. Shad heard it fro himself. very important here when I do most of my practicing at 12-3 AM. On top of that, I find that I like Dumbles the best before the power amp starts to give in. I like the power section TIGHT. So with those factors, you can see why i like to have CONTROL of the volume on a 100 watt amp, not that I like them quiet.

No. My posts have all been on track except responding to outside BS.

Notice he said all levels?? Scotts "whisper" level is both of us sittingh in a 10X 12 room and having to shout at each other while sitting 2-3 feet apart. Nothing wrong with that if thats how you practice! I can say without ANY doubt however. Play like that or practice like that for any length of time on a regular basis, and your hearing is gone. Not an opinion, a fact.
Once we dialed in the mule I brought, still far from optimal since mine is setup for one specific volume level playing live with a band, it sounded very good. Tag even agreed.
I agree. It was a nice tone. Not one I would use, but a good tone. Unlike Scott, I would have ZERO use for an amp that only sounded good at one volume level, and that level is frigging LOUD. If that works for you, GREAT! Not for me.
However, it was unuseable at the Tag volume levels. Not only was the master too low, I had the Dumbleator almost off!!!
I agree. I thought his amp sounded like ass at anything below ear bleed levels. Harsh and solid state like. I commented my HR Deville sounded better, and I was serious. Unuasable is the right word, but hey, it works for him! I do have my doubts he practices at that level.
It was then mentioned a few other times how you considered how loud Scott like things (I always thought 100W were loud too ). So it seems you set yours to a very reasonable volume (I won't say bedroom
)
Why not? I will. When I am in a bedroom, I set my amp to bedroom volume levels. I like my hearing.
So ya just wondering why you like quiet 100W amps
You are assuming again, and you know what they say about that.
with the master set low.
Two completely different things. Can you show me a quiet 100 watt amp? I am unaware of any.
I also found you get better tone as you turn up the MV.
Ah! I disagree. I can get the tone I like from whisper quiet, to blow your socks up your arse volumes. Dumble knows MVs!
The amp tends to "open" up and you get more of that sustain, blooming, feedback, noteflipiing and all that other monkey crap
