Hey Tag..It would IMO be a wonderful thing if you could find out a bit more why exactly is it you like that guitar better..Like measure the DC resistance of the PUP's what type etc../Pot values/cap values or something some can learn from!!

Have fun trying to get it to sound the same though. Other 183 clones I have heard and played were not even in the ballpark for some reason. I guess there is more to getting it sonically correct than a schematic and or internet pics.

This is real encouraging stuff out there for some new DIY builders who really likes your tone and wants to try and get there in some small way..You discourage them.. Do you feel some sense of superiority possibly knowing that you might have something that sounds better than they do? (if that's possible) ..This is a place to encourage and help others here.
If it comes off like show and tell (with little to tell).. Check out how good this sounds and BTW good luck getting there.It gets old fast and not what this place is about..

BTW.If your Quinn has a 1 of a kind sound and you give us no info on it. What's the point of posting clips of your new Strat through it and saying it's great..How does that benefit us ODS builders who might like that tone?..

False. I posted the output of the pups. Sorry I did not feel like ripping the guitar apart right at the moment. When I get the new pups and take the guitar apart, I will gladly measure and give the exact values.

Once again, I posted about the pups, stated the output, and also said I did not feel they sounded as good as production 57 pups. Which I now just happen to have as well. I hope you enjoy the tone!

If your #183 Quinn sounds closer to the real deal than other builds then posting gutshots might help uncover what makes it special. Of course, if you'd rather not post them then, IMHO, that's totally your prerogative too... Why sell yourself short? As I see it you've got more to add than your ears if you have the amp, a screwdriver, a camera and an internet connection. If there are other reasons for keeping this info to yourself (as it seems there may be given what's been said), then why not just come right out and say it?

I have come right out and said it. When I bought the Dumble, I was not letting anyone see inside except Shad who cloned the amp for me. After I sold it, the new owner sent pictures out, and Shad went over everthing in detail AFAIK. Nothing for me to add. Even at this point, I will not let anyone look inside my amp however. If I hear someone else besides Shad nail the tone, I will be more than happy to say so. Good for them! I have posted (and still can) post gut shots of several other clones I owned. I think I have gut shots of a few Emmys, Customs and maybe CRS1. This amp is to me though, is MY Holy grail of overdriven tones, and yes, its a bit special to me. I thought Fords was the best sounding Dumble I had heard, until I plugged into 183. The cleans kind of suck IMO though, like every Dumble I have played. A good Fender will eat up any Dumbles cleans IMO. At least any of the Dumbles I have played or heard in person. So this is the ONE amp I will stay true to my original postings. Listen, but no peeking! No hard feelings I hope. If you had spent a ton of $$ on what you thought was a VERY special Dumble, I would not blame you at all for posting clips of it but not showing the insides. Actually, I would think it was kind of cool of you.

Here is a post I did way back..One of my first on my amps.. I really wasn't trying to sell it but thought I would tell a little bit about it how it sounded you know be a pat of this great community.. BUT could not post any insides due to the company agreement at VVT at the time..Boy I got ripped for it and the thread was pretty much closed down.. That was the old day's here and now things are more laxed with respect to not being able to post gut shots.. Anyway thought you would get a kick out of it!!

Talbany: Looks like I'm late to the show yet again... I blame it all on wearing out the middle section of Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) off of the Electric Ladyland LP. My timing has been messed up ever since.

PS: Talbany: How'd that regulator work out? I always wondered why we don't see more tube amps with regulated power supplies given how much of an effect changes in voltage have on the sound and feel.

I liked the OC3 reg simply beacuse I could throw 500v on the plates of 6L's and run the screens a bit lower (100v) These seemed to sound best run right around 500v on the plates..This IMO helped with touch sensativity tighter lows smoother breakup and seem to enhance the top end (real chimey)
Since the screens were running 100v lower it was a bit easier in the 6L's..I can't say for certain if the regulating aspect of the OC3 changed the overall tone and feel that much but all of those D-Style amps I built with those were pretty smooth..I ran them the same 200v at V1 and 300 @ PI..I don't use them in any of my off the shelf ODS amps now but depending on the customers needs tone desires I still have a drawer full of them..They especially work great on say 6550's or KT88's 500v on plates..
Funny thing..That amp eventually went to Craig Bartock (Heart) and I always know when he changes his amp Amp/Guitar tech we get a call asking what kind of rectifier is in that amp because this one is bad and is flashing purple!!

I would assume the main reason for others not going there is they don't make them anymore!!..BUT you can still get them NOS and pretty cheap too..
