I got a deal on TGP for a ever so slightly used Celestion G12 Century neodymium. I loaded it in an oversized 'Dumble Approved' 1X12 pine cab with oval open back and a floating baffle. All I can say is WOW!!! I'm infatuated with this speaker! I'm so taken with it, I haven't been able to part with it long enough to try it in a different cab. It's right up there with my Heritage G12-65 reissue. Very similar tone with a touch more bottom end and slightly more efficient. Not cheap ($218 more or less street price), but under 4 lb. and sounds great.
Anyone else try one of these with their D-clone?
That's good to hear, I'm planning a D-type build and was thinking of using 2 G12 Century Neo in a 2x12" Dumble-style oval ported cabinet (still trying to find a plan - anyone help with that?).
You think that would make a good setup?
I wish I could help, but I have limited experience with 2X12 set-ups but I suspect it would be excellent - and the weight...
One question though - is weight an issue for you? Rather than screwing around, why not go with a couple of Heritage G-1265 reissues? If they're good enough for Robben (dogears et al) in an open back 2X12, why chance it?

I just found a pair of used EVM-12L speakers taken out of a silver faced twin, and finally got to take them for a test drive last night. This is for my 100W ODS HRM. Previously I had a pair of Eminence RWB in the there. Night and day. The EVMs are very smooth. This would be up and down the frequency spectrum. I couldn't find anything that made me wince, other than lifting the cab to put it back after installing them. They worked very well either clean or in OD. Safe to say this was the final touch needed to make this amp top of the line.
The RWB are very very muffled. Glad you discovered what I have been saying! I do prefer the the G1265 with the HRM amps though. The EVM sounds more to my liking when mated to a non HRM. Just my 2c.

I'm looking for the non-HRM sound. You are recommending the EV for that, but being cheap as I am, how does the Eminence Delta Pro 12-A, work. I thought in a previous thread, you had stated if you want EV buy EV and not a clone, just would like to confirm. It seems like it makes arounda $100 difference or so.
Luthierwnc wrote:As long as the subject is back in play, did anyone ever run an A/B test on an EV and an Eminence Delta Pro? sh
Have both. They compare favorably in the lows & mids. The Delta Pro lacks sparkle in the highs. Not that the EV is "sparkly", but the Delta Pro comparison makes it seem so. If you live on the clean side the Delta Pro with the bright switch on is very pleasing on big clean tones.
I'll post a quick clip later tonight of the same amp pushing a Delta Pro and a 12L.
Down & dirty: Same amp, mic, guitar, settings, recorder levels, EV in a TL cab, Delta in a 2 x 12 open back. compare the highs - Bigger open back cab seemed to impart mucho more bass in Delta... There is some digital clipping on the 12L clip(likely more efficient in that TL box).

I have one in a Thiele ported cab. I like it a lot, especally in the lows and mids. It's a little lacking on the highs, but I like the way it responds. Somehow I think the amps sound a tad better with the treble turned up to about 2:00.

I just have to build a Thiele cab some day for me... For the delta pro having less highs seem to suit my taste just fine. I still have separate masters on my nhrm and there is a treble bleed cap on the clean master so the delta pro might do just fine on my amp, we'll see. I'm also getting an Eminence 1218 after three weeks, will report also that when I get it.
Thanks Stelligan for the clips. They really show the difference between the two speakers. Btw. did the both speakers have broken in properly - how many hours behind them ?

I've owned and played the EV since 1979(5 nights a week in a Music Man for about 6-7 years). The Delta has been doing time in 2 x 12 cab driven by a Bassman iron HRM(loud) for about a year. Playing 2 - 3 hours 3 times a week.

I'm a late arrival to this thread. I generally read the Trainwreck posts and ignore anything Dumble related.
I'm a cabinet guy. I've recently built a bunch of Dumble head cabs then a couple combos and received rave reviews from gearheads who know a good thing when they hear it. As soon as the dust settles from the twenty or so other projects I'm working on you'll see what I call the D. Luxe. I see a lot of musicians swapping speakers ad infinitum when the reality of their situation is that they have little hope of getting good tone out of their cabinet. I build great sounding cabinets.

Cool,
I would be interested on you take on a combo cab and speaker selection with your desidn.

Absof*@kinlutely
As far as cabinets go, yes indeed you need a good box to start with. Still much variance from speaker to speaker IMHO. Mating speakers with cabs is yet another long thread. muchxs - lead me to your cabinet pics. I'd love to try a cab built by a fellow forumite.
If you can get past the name of the company, Boogafunk located here in Huntsville, AL makes great looking and great sounding Thiele cabs. They are available either loaded or unloaded.
