hey guys, im gonna see if i can finally get around to building the dumble lite i have on my plate, and i had left out buying coupling caps because i didnt know then, as i still dont, what would be the best choice. im gonna use 6l6's and 6v6's with it mostly, and itll run a little lower in PA plate voltage so either will run smoothly. whats the best coupling cap for the job? OD715? or OD716? i think 716 right?
I don't believe it's like there is a magical cap type that will be the best choice for every location. To avoid the hassle of trying out the 100000 combinations possible I go with a cheap alternative to start with. If not satisfied with the tone I try different values first, if still not happy then I guess I could end up trying different cap types.
I find nothing wrong with Wima MKS4, except for the need to solder on some longer leads. If they are good enough for Bogner they are good enough for me.
Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt. Seriously the PS series work everytime in this style of amp and they are not expensive so try them first and then work backwards if you have OCD or should I say OCDD.
I can't say anything bad about PS but still I find it a funny coincidence that all the best sounding caps you find in boutique amps in general happen to have long leads and look sexy.
Edit:Just my personal views and intentionally trying to see things a bit differently. Guess I need to get that T-Shirt too.

I believe Wima's just sound fine and not as bright as the OD PS but If you go for a horn like tone they could be a good alternative. I feel they just need some more time to break in.
I made a PC board 50W EL34 ODS once using Wima's, Allan Bradley CF's and Kiwame's for the plates. The goal was a more TW express like OD section. Wasn't dissapointed at all. I would try the Wima's in a PTP if they had long leads. I love to mix caps to get some more spice. Very much time consuming but worth it. I have a studio recording somewhere from this amp and if you like to hear it I post a mp3. BTW I hate the instant sounding Bogners.
It's true that other cap brands will probably give you a decent sounding amp, but the PS series OD's are the standard caps for this topology. Many of the early threads on AG were about the various cap types, but I know with my own builds, it has been useful to build a baseline amp and then modify to taste. If you start with a variation on the theme, who knows where you will end up! (probably with a Bogner )
When you wanna go straight stay as close as possible with the original.
Can be a big struggle to get real close to the RF or LC sound.
Most people are so far away from their playing techniques and skills they even would come close with the same equipment. I have a SF Twin Reverb chassis I use for all experiments. When this one is messed up to mutch I put in a new multi board and new tube sockets.
Only when I have thing's right I'am gonna build up the amp I want.
