Going for a RF amp and #183

Post by johan »

Hi
I have to start out saying I don't have the skills to build an amp myself. Pedals yet but no amp. I will start out with a 5E3 kit someday.
I found a guy locally who's built a couple of D-style amps and he promised to help me complete two amps for me.
I will do the playing and the $$$ + try to find the info on what to do. He'll do the soldering and explain what happens if you tweak here and there.

Still, some info from you guys would be appreciateed.

I have a D'lite up and running + a chassis from C-tone coming. The C-tone will be a 100W ODS non-HRM. The D'Lite will be a non-HRM EL34 50 Watts.

D'lite - I will do some changes to this amp anyway. It's already a 30-ish watt 6L6 non HRM. If I want to make it closer to a TKT #183, you think a 50W Plexi OT is a good idea? Is it crucial since I want to use EL34?
How about a Fender choke (6L6), Fender PT and a Plexi 50W OT?
You think the C-winged El34 is the best current tubes for this amp? Or anything from TAD? Has anyone built a #183 type of amp? Are you happy with it?

C-tone - 100W non HRM. I'm going for a high plates, 6L6 eq amp with Heyboer Twin Reverb PT, OT and choke. The Robben vs TAG thread has a lot of info on the Ojai amp. Is it really the best version for classic RF tones or is it more of a one trick pony for Jing Chi tones?

I already have Dumbleator and I guess it will be paired with the 100W ODS.

These two projects will go on this fall and winter. I will try to update thread from time to time on what's happening.

Thanks to everyone on this forum. Structo in particular.

How did it turn out?
You think it's possible to make a 50W #183 with a 50W Plexi OT and spec acc to the RF vs TAG thread?
You know the amp. Did it turn out similar?

THANKS!

If the TKT amp sounds as good as it looks you have a winner :)
