Robben Ford!

Post by Structo »

This morning I stumbled upon an article about Robben's current tour and low and behold he is playing Portland on the 20th.
I am very excited to be able to go see Robben Ford at the Aladdin Theater in Portland on October 20.

It will be my first time seeing Robben perform live.

It's billed as the Robben Ford Trio.

I wish it would have been Renegade Creation with Michael Landau.

You will love the "Robben Ford Trio", since its its usual lineup (alias "Robben Ford Band") with Trevis Carlton, who is a hell of a Bass Player - he plays so sensible und underlines Fords playing in such a perfect way... as I said, you'll love it. Keep clear of Fords Cabinet though - it is f**** loud to stand in the beam; really, do not sit or stand in the beam.

Thanks, I was trying to figure out the other members of the trio without much luck.

Did you see him recently in Europe?

I sure hope he has his Dumble at the Portland show.

Saw him 2 years ago 2 times in Austria - one time in Linz (Upper Austria) and the day later in Vienna (kind of was traveling with him ;-) both times with this lineup and it was awesome. As always his music also had this intense quality that left me stranded emotionally for some time - you know - the blues ;-)
I would bet he has his Dumble with him - he even had it at the shows in europe, so...
have fun!

Off to see Ford and Landau tonight. I do hope they're both using dumbles.
Will try and get up close and avoid the beam.

Are they touring to support the Renegade Creation album? I saw them a couple years back (Landau and Ford) on tour as Renegade Creation. The album hadn't been released yet because of some issues. I didn't get the full story, but it sounded like they had two other members that were replaced by Jimmy Haslip and Gary Novak. Tracks needed to be re-recorded, etc....

amazing performance. Robben is always so gracious, especially when playing with another great guitar player. Wish I could see them this time around at Jazz Alley, but it's a weeknight, and a bit of a drive. Report back on the performance, and see if you can snag a set list :)

Never mind, I was just looking at the tour dates and your OP. Seattle and Portland aren't renegade creation but the Robben Ford trio.

Congratulations and enjoy the show! I have been lucky to see him many times, and once when I went to see David Sanborn and he just happened to be the guitarist in the band. That was the best I have ever seen Ford play. Sanborn allowed him pure freedom, and they seemed to feed off of each other. When I have seen Ford with other guitar players, they both always seem to lay back a bit. I think you are better off seeing him on his own to be honest. :D

I saw Renegade Creation last night, totally blown away.

They bought a guy up onstage who had won a PRS from the music store that was promoting the tour.

Not only did he get to play on song with them, but through Ford's Dumble.

A win,win,win situation

It was the black one.

There is a rumour that it was a clone and belonged to the guy who won the guitar. But he didn't know where the standy switch was and Robben had to show him, so who knows?
But it did have Dumble Logo's on the head and Dumblator. I will ask my friend who was the guitarist in the support band and see if he knows if it was Ford's amp or not.

Personally, I didn't think it sounded that good, but the guy could play.

I thought Robben's sound was awesome, he used a Fender Twin and a Super Reverb, Ford Tone to the Max.
Mike Landau was using 2 Fender Hot Rod DeVille's, again awesome tone.
