What with the board sets coming up , I put my name down for a CE black chassis and started thinking about a tan suede/ diamond cloth head cab.
I have only built 50w amps so far so I had a look at some MagneticComponents/Classictone Twin iron too.
Speaker is a slight problem as I only have G12-65H singles and a CRex 50w, but I guess if I am not running flat out and controlled by the Dlator I can risk it.
Any thoughts on alternative topographies? I don't really need a Marshall sound as I have one. My 50w 102 now has low plates but I am drawn to the low plate Classic #124. I'm still not sure about 1st gen/2nd gen amps either... will I like like em?
I built a 100W 2nd gen Hybrid a-la jborders layout last winter.
Came out killer. Only found 1 minor problem in the layout, there is a slight wiring mistake on the PAB switch.
I would up using heyboer iron from mojo, but I used magnetic components twin iron in my first build (#124 clone) and it worked out great.

That is a beautiful build! How do you find the 2nd gen in comparison with 124. I would be very interested to hear your thoughts.
It certainly looks interesting, two contenders here now - 2nd gen hybrid vs 124.
It is tough for me to compare.
I definitely think I like the 2nd gen better. However, I don't know if I can quantify why i like it better.
I definitely have much better lead dress on the 2nd Gen, and the NOS caps and resistors probably don't hurt either.
I also like making the FET footswitchable. I didn't put a FET at all in the 124. I find myself using it a bit when switching from my les paul to my strat to bump the lower output up a bit.
I am happy with both. Taylor also built a 2nd Gen, albeit a 50W version.
I think he has some video clips of his around here somewhere.
If I find them, I will post a link.
Rog, I would ask yourself what do you plan on using the new 100 watt amp for.
Do you play in a band if so what style of music do you play.
One thing about the 100 watt it is much brighter that a 50 watt.
On the classic tone stack I built a 100 watt #124 with a EVM12L all the Jazz guy's love it
it has a 1959 85 watt Twin PT and a fender showman 4-8 OPT with STR-415 6L6GC Quad.
I never play this amp.
next is a EL34 100 watt same tone stack V-1 135k,2k2/135k,2k2 Marshall Black Flag OPT
Custom wound PT it was way bright a Fane Studio 12L solved that rolled the high end off.
Next is #183 I love this 100 watt amp 1968 Marshall SL-100 OPT Custom wound PT
two EV12M'S it rocks like no other.
The next one is a 50 Watt started out as a #183 but it distorted to much so I went with the
135k,2k2/135k,2k2 on V-1 Marshall JTM45 PT 1968 Marshall SL-50 OPT
I tried ten different speakers used a EVM12-S this is my main amp now
I may have stumbled on Angles breath with this build the 50 watt amp has a love for vintage Telecasters
i just auditioned for a band and used the 50 watt I was number 11 on the audition list got the gig
72 hours later we played the first show I started out with my 1960 Les Paul standard
when I switched to the 1950 Broadcaster The people just swarmed the stage
It's not 3D it's 4D sound. The more I learn the less I know.

Great post man! On your Angel's Breath 50W #183, did you use the precision power supply or standard like #102? Congratulations on getting that gig!

I play a lot of different styles and different guitars as listed, it's hard to settle on an amp.
The most versatile rig I have is the 2204 50w with a pedal board that can be tailored to the situation. That rocks all night long if needed. Covers most bases.
The Dumbles are more for jazzier/countrier(?), cleaner styles with some blues/jazz or blues/rock on the OD. Can also be a two amp rig with the Marshall to cover absolutely everything if needed.
I wouldn't really do early Knopfler on the Marshall and I wouldn't like to do Hendrix/P. Floyd styles without the Marshall/pedalboard.
I really like my second gen. I used the same layout as Steve and my amp sounds great. It still likes the Dumbleator for effects. Mine is a 50w, but would sound even better as 100w.
It's pretty smooth, cleans are great. Great bloom. I used all NOS. My thread is in here somewhere too!

Looks like the 2nd gen hybrid with FET on the footswitch sounds fun.
I will be in touch for some head cab trimmings sometime soon, if that is OK?
