What's up with Shad/Quinn Amps?

He relocated, is with his family, set-up shop and trying to get the backlog of amps built per a FB post.
Re: What's up with Shad/Quinn Amps?
He is and has been ducking everyone he owes gear to. He has stolen gear and a ton of money from people and refuses to make any contact with them about it. He made snide comments on that Facebook page that don't look good for anyone to ever recoup anything from him. He had two different people offer to help him get things wired up for what was owed out to those people and he declined to do anything. He's had opportunities to get jobs wiring up things for grow houses in Sonoma county and or trimming I'm sure so he's had no excuse not to get in touch with people and start making an effort, however slow it may be, and get each thing owed out so he's back at ground zero and can start anew. This is not what he's done. He's simply dissappeared.

LOL @ Luthierwnc stepping in and trying to get the guys in that thread to just face reality and move on with their lives, but they're having none of it. You tried, dude. You tried.

Yeah, I don't even know why I was there. TGP hasn't been a technical site for a while.
I issued something of an apology but the OP proved me right in a later post to the Carol-Ann builder. He said he might be playing a Carol-Ann amp if he hadn't lost three grand on the Quinn three years ago. So my snotty comment about the money was on point. I roll my own but if I didn't, I would consider a custom amp to be a luxury item. If you can't afford to lose it, you couldn't afford it in the first place.
It turned out to be a troll in disguise. A resolute man would have initiated legal action a year ago without needing group support. A practical man wouldn't have invited all the other victims to get in line and dilute whatever unlikely pittance comes of it. A realistic man would have made plans to get another amp long before now -- as would someone dedicated to his music or a man who makes a reasonable living and knows things don't always work out. A wise man would not have wallowed in bitter resentment at life's cruelty. Someone dedicated to justice would help battered wives, not hassle failed businessmen. A family man wouldn't put his family's address on legal papers served on someone who just lost everything he owns -- except maybe a shotgun.
All that's left is misery looking for company. Well, he found it. Maybe they'll start a band.
Cheers, sh

I didn't read the TGP thread and I don't have any feelings about Shad and I don't know the situation at all. Ripping people off ain't cool under any circumstance. If you can't afford to lose it, you couldn't afford it in the first place.
I'm not impacted by any of this, but that quote is effing harsh. This appears to be about ethics and law. It has nothing to do with the financial situation of the customer/victim.

But this isn't about the builder. That people know him puts a face to the narrative but the financial effect would have been the same if an anonymous junkie had stolen the amp at a gig.
My point is that the guy was using it as an excuse to not get what he wants. And lots of posters were vicariously piling on encouraging him to put more money into chasing the guy in the name of righteousness. Some people just like the smell of burning sinners.
They should have been telling him to put his cash towards a nice amp. And if that is out of his reach, to put it into something he really needs.
Cash can be replaced. Time can't. You spend your life grinding your teeth for things you can't get back and pretty soon you can't get your life back either. And your teeth hurt.

I get what you're saying but I'm not one to just sit back and take a screwin.there has to be some effort put into righting wrongs.

Of course. You should do what you can. And Vibroking's comment about the harshness of my response was absolutely correct.
But harsh doesn't make it wrong. Good advice sometimes is. If a friend had come to me with a similar situation, I'd have said to save towards an alternative amp, don't put any more money into suing the guy and, absolutely most important, don't let this consume you. It didn't work for Gollum.
This should be outside the scope of TAG and I apologize for letting it bleed over from TGP. I just didn't like the way so many people were encouraging the OP to make this a crusade. He deserves better. sh

If its not bothering the guy it shouldn't be bothering you. If times so important as you say it is why are you wasting yours on it.
Guys got ripped - anyone who has can get along with that business as they please. I'd do it and not be bogged down or bitter, but thats the way I roll...

I agree with Luthierwnc.
I read the TGP thread, and the piling on by people who had no knowledge of the situation, and just wanted to vent unfocused anger was sickening.
TAG readers know the Shad story, and it is a sad story, but he did screw people.
I completely agree with the advice "you got f*cked, now move along."
Harsh, but right.

I didn't mean to be a scold. That never worked very well on me.
The OP didn't start this but there was an expanding view that some of the great builders in the world shouldn't be trusted very far with custom work because one of them took a powder.
This is the golden age of amp building but it is also very fragile. Making a good amp is one thing (hell, I've made some good ones) but making a living doing it has got to be tough. The last thing these guys need is Shad's legacy damaging their chances -- especially inflamed by neckbeards who aren't in the market anyway.
Many of these builders have helped me here and elsewhere just because they are good people. I appreciate that and I don't mind sticking up for them.

Yup, cash can be replaced...at least for some. The problem cash has a different value for everyone. You don't have to spend your life on things like this. No reason to grind your teeth either. The tables can easily be turned and satisfaction reached, depending on your definition, with very little effort. When I have been ripped, I have found it easy and entertaining to resolve the situation with very little effort. Just takes a little imagination and can actually be a fun and creative process.

The years are still way ahead. I'm hoping they even up before they put the pennies on my eyes
