speaker choice for open back ods reverb

Post by Mainetone »

Morning all from snowy Maine,
Hoping for some guidance, I have been working on an Ods reverb that started life as a Deluxe Reverb. the amp sounds killer through my Zbest cab{closed back}
However when I play the amp thru the cab it sounds like crap,
I have tried the following speakers
g12-65, jbl2202h and Eminence 1258.
I don't have room for a 12l, without relocating the output transformer which Im apprehensive about as I don't want to drill any more chassis hole
Thanks
Shawn

Alnico Golds are great with 6V6 in my opinion assuming that is what you have in the amp

Which circuit did you use for the ODS and which Reverb?

Why would you assume 6V6 when most of the schematics and layouts use 6L6?

Marinetone... I have used the Delta Pro from Eminence... they sound great in an open back. Sorry that is about all I have tried with the ODS circuit. If it means moving the OT... the chassis can handle it.

Thanks for the replies,
The circuit is ods reverb #60 with the three tube verb, od is post verb.
I used the bulesmaster values for the ods stage..i.e. 470k/47p to 120k feeding grid of v2, remainder of circuit is same as #60.

Thanks again

Because it was a deluxe reverb donor = 6V6

The WGS ET65 sounds great with anything I plug it into. I've used it both closed and open backed with fantastic results.

I agree about the WGS ET65. I have two. One in a combo, the other in an D'style open back extension cab... every thing I have plugged in sounds great.

I have two Dumble/Two Rock style oval open back 212 cabs one loaded with WGS ET65 and the other with EVM12L both work well for SSS, ODS and JM sig Reverb amps.

I had my cab like that loaded with 12L's. It required a fridge mover to lug it around.

I've used Eminence Swamp Thangs in a couple of Small Special combos and found them to be very good. Anyone else tried one?
