Kiwame Carbon Film Resistors good enough?

Post by Oddvar R »

Hi. I wonder why it always seem to be Xicon ceramic in the power section. I have a Kiwame Carbon Film Resistors 2.7k 5w, would it be equivalent? (Dumble ODS)

Nothing special about Xicon, they are just what is commonly available in ceramic WW here. Any WW or metal oxide resistor would do. Flameproof resistors are best for the power supply, so CF would probably not meet that criteria.

Give it a go :D keep an eye on it when you're running the amp in and see if it looks like it's getting too hot , if so get a WW or Metal oxide in there.

simples :D

Several of the OD layouts have PSU resistor wattage way beyond what is necesseary, - e.g. the 270k balancing resistors for the two main cap's are often shown as 5W, but on calculating the dissipation with one cap shorted, one resistor will dissipate appx 1W....
OTOH - better safe than sorry..... 8)
