Tomo Fujita playing ODS 9 and 4x10 cabinet

Post by nuke »

This popped up in my YouTube feed. It is a 12-year old video of a much younger looking Tomo Fujita playing a strat through what appears to be Lowell George's ODS #9 with the 4x10 cabinet. Crazy good haunting tone.

What serial number is that?

I'm not an expert on dating them or who's amp was who's. I see the extra light on the front panel, but I don't know who's it was.

As far as I can recall right now, the serial number is one between #0013 and #0019. If you're interested, you can find some comments from Howard Dumble's European distributor at the time regarding this ODRS at the two links below:

Nice link, so it was also Lowell George's amp.

It is interesting, because I'm in the process of building a 4x10 combo derived from ODS/R. Not a clone, more of a scratch build, but that's the direction I'm going.

I don’t know for certain whether ODRS #0015 (I’ve since recalled the serial number) actually belonged to Lowell George at some point. Perhaps when the Roy brothers referred to it as a "sister amp" in their Instagram comments, they were alluding to the striking visual similarities between the two setups—each consisting of an ODRS head and a PI-Q10 speaker cabinet—rather than implying that both amps were owned by the same musician. But that is just a guess. So, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that ODRS #0015 did indeed belong to Lowell George.
Here's another picture of an ODRS combo in an Applied Acoustics made wooden cabinet on the Roy brothers' Instagram account with some comments:

And here are two clips from a CD that Karl Ratzer recorded in 1999 using this ODRS #0015 and the matching PI-Q10 cabinet:

Have fun with your combo project!
