Is the 'Unknown' resistor in the picture 120k or 220k?

Poll: Guess the resistor value

Post by ic-racer »

Here is a composite picture showing two known resistors (120K and 220K) and then there are three views of an unknown resistor (the entrance resistor to the OD trimmer pot of #124)

Based on the photographs, what do you think the value of the unknown resistor is???

Without remembering the value in #124, I'd conjecture 220K.

Well, Gil told me 220K. Billy's notes say 120K. If I were in the blind I'd say 120K since the trimmer is 350K. But I believe Gil since he was there in person.

Regardless, I would try a 220K feeding 250K trimmer if I were cloning #124.

That amp has a 120K and a 350K trimmer, I'm pretty sure.

Of course I'm no expert, but from the photographs to me it's pretty clear it's a 120k

The intent (at least mine is) is to accurately document 124 as is, worts and all.

Yea, but keep in mind that you can't get 350K trimmers. I'd use 220K into 250K on the schematic with an asterisk. 120K + 350K = 470K. 220K +250K = 470K. Same net using current parts, same tone, same everthing. Just trimmer setting changes.

Whadda Ya mean you can't get 350K trimmers? I have a whole bag of em, CTS brand from CE. you can also measure a stack of 500K's, you'll find at least one close-

Whoops! Then I stand corrected! I probably still use the 250K trimmer since it throws more of the resistance on the higher quality feed resistor.

How the hell did you find those on their site?

First time I ever saw them listed and they are not under pots. Had to search on CTS

I believe Gil. I believe Gil believes it was a 220K. But dang, everything else suggests to me it's a 120K so I have to go with that.

Really? It was the photos that convinced me of 120K. Funny - one of us should get his monitor calibrated! :D
