Trim Potis inside of the Ceriatone

Post by GregorHIlden »

Hi Folks, I just got me a Ceriatone Top since a guitarplayer here in germany had this one for sale. So I bought it to check out the amp.
The first channel sounds really nice - but the Overdrive Channel is not what I want. It has way too much gain and if I reduce the gain, the channel is not as loud as the first channel.

I saw two trimmers inside the amp. I labeled "1" and "2" on my picture. Could anybody tell me wich pot I have to adjust to change the OD-Channel only? I want to leave the fist channel like it is, so I don't want to dial the wrong trimmer...

Thanks for answering, Gregor

#1 is the overdrive entrance trimmer. #2 sets the Phase Inverter balance which hopefully is ok since you're happy with the clean tone.

setting the OD trimmer to about 9 o'clock is a really great area for lower gain tones. but let your ears be the guide.

which ceriatone OTS model is that?

Hi Gregor, welcome to the OTS club. Best power tubes I've heard to date in the amp have been Svetlana Winged C. Not sure what is in yours, but the JJ's from the factory do not necessarily let the amp shine.

Continued success to you.

Jim

Will you be trying to mod it to sound like your old OS, or something different?

Hi Jim, I even have noticed what tubes inside - but after trimming on the inside pots the amp sounds good now. Was horrible gainy and compressed on the OD channel before.... Gregor

It is not possible to get 100% the sound of the #94 Dumble I had - but after trimming I think the amp is really good now. But I'm only able to say more after a gig. It's different when you play amps at home or on stage.. got the chassis only and ordered a cabinet yesterday, so it will takes some weeks befor I can check the am live. All the best, Gregor

i changed my preamp tubes to Tungsol 12AX7's any my power amp tubes to Tungsol 5881's and it makes tuch a huge difference. the OD is smoother and the cleans improved so much

Hallo Gregor,

And for everyone who isn't able to understand German:

Did you mod your amp or is it stock? Which speaker do you use? I own an OTS, too, and I'm trying to get the best out of it.

I think amp is stock, the Vox 2 x 12 Blue Alnico Cab works great

Dumble

This is the greatest joke ever. A Dumble owner who bought a Ceriatone.

Welcome to the club. Obviously I'd love to hear your opinion.:-)

Well, i like it :)
I (an 18 year old student from germany) would NEVER be able to afford some of the more expensive d-clones or a real dumble, so i'm really happy to hear that this amp is good from him (I really like his playing and tone).

and it tells me that i made the right decision with buying this amp.

I don't see anything wrong with them at all.
A very good bargain, and very tweakable platform to experiment with.

Don't let that smoke out!
