My first Axe-Fx clip - Dumble model

This is my first attempt at recording with my Axe Fx Ultra. This is the non HRM Skyline patch.

Needs some tweaks to bring out the chirp more and upper mids. Mids are a bit congested. I think with some more tweaks and cab/mic impulse response work, it can be very good. This was the 4X12 cab model with Celestion 25 watters. Cab miced in stereo with a Neumann and Royer R121 simulation.

No doubt I can get it really good. Of course, it just does not feel like my real amps cranked! But for silent recording it is really nice.

Here is another mix, guitar is lower in mix and I think I used a slightly different verb. (I added a teenie amount after the fact)

Great playing! I have to say, though, that it doesn't sound quite "right" to me. There's something poorly-defined about the notes, but maybe that's just the encoding. Clips are hard to evaluate that way.

How does it respond to pick attack? It sounds to me like you vary that a little, but almost like the AxeFX just sort of glosses over that and makes it all sound about the same? Also, how does it do on chords? One of the things I like about my amp is how it does on chords, even big jazz chords that have caused other amps to overemphasize some bad interactions between notes.

I seriously wonder, though, if you'd posted this as a "clip of a new non-HRM" if my perception would be different.

Not bad Scott.
So this was the Axe Fx straight into your computer sound card?

I see that most of the guys running the Axe Fx into powered speakers or SS power amps.

Like you said, not a good substitute for a good amp but in cases where you can't have an amp, like on a church worship team, it would be totally accessible.
I used to use my POD XTL straight into the board for this.

Who says ya can't use an amp at church?! Our soundman likes my amp so much he keeps tinkering with multi-mic setups on it. ;-)

Haven't heard any Axe FX clips that sound anything like that before. Sounds great, and awesome playing...

Tempting for a headphones-only player like me!

Damn - sounds pretty convincing Scott! Did you have to tweak the patch or is that as delivered with AxeFX?

sounded really good but there's a small "artifact" that you just cant ever get with digital modeling circuitry that's in a real tube amp.

And that playing was awesome Scott
It's true i've lost my marbles and i cant remember where i put them

With a clip like that I could be easily deceived that this is a real thing.

...but does it feel the same when you play it... I hope not :?

Tag used this backing too often. I hear few licks TAG's played in there. Maybe he stole them from you.

Sounds a little sterile to my ears...not squishy enough for a good D tone.

Second clip sounds very nice for an amp without tubes. Big improvement on the first. Sure wish I could play like that!
