Maz 18Wer - what rating on PT 5V winding?

Post by tubeswell »

I know it runs a GZ34 and that is 2A, but I need to know if the 5V winding on the stock Dr Z PT is rated at 3A please (if anyone knows)?

TIA

Sorry, I don't know how the transformer is wound.

If you feel the need to run a 5U4 in one to lower voltage try a 5T4. It has the same specs but only needs 2 amps. Its a metal envelope tube. They're cheap at about $10.00 each from Surplus sales of Nebraska, Fair Radio sales has them used for $3.50 ea. Tubesandmore.com has them for $9.50 ea.

Gibson used this on some early amps see pg 61 of the Gibson Manual for the GA Custom circuit.

Yes it is a 3.0 amp winding on the 5 V filament of the DR-5001 PT.

Actually all my Tranformers with 5 V taps are rated at 3 amp for the use of a 5U4 rectifier.
