I have a 125C1A choke, which is 4H, 90mA and 108 Ohm.
The 159Q, that many like to use, is 7H, 150mA and 100 ohm, I believe.
Do I need 150mA? Or could I try my 90mA choke, withouth destroying it? How many mA go through it in a Z-Wreck amp?
I'm going to get a 159Q, but it would be fun to try a different one, just to hear the difference.

Re: Choke for Z-Wreck
You will be fine with 90ma in a 30 watt amp. Since the choke comes after the plates it only passes the current for the screens and the preamp tubes down the line, which are all pretty low current.
Re: Choke for Z-Wreck
Thanks!
I'm going to try different chokes though. It's an easy and pretty cheap way to experiment with tone. I'm wondering how different it will sound....

Re: Choke for Z-Wreck
Tommy as Eddie stated the choke is down the PS so 90 mA will be fine.
Just remember Filter caps control Voltage levels and the sag you feel when playing hard.
A choke maintains the Currant and keeps the circuits dynamic to your touch. The more important spec is the Hy, just like uF to a filter cap.

Ok, and 7H is the number to aim for?
