Airline 62-9015-A

Post by kuys »

Hello all, my name is Matt Stewart and I'm a hobbyist tech turned semi-professional repair person and I'm desperately trying to find a schematic for this old gem.

The Airline 62-9015-A is the amp I speak of. Someone before me had tried to "repair" this amp and now huge chunks of the circuit are gone. I'd like to repair this amp to original specs if possible.

If any of you kindhearted gentlemen out there have a schematic that you'd like to share I'd be forever in your debt.

This model Airline appears to have been manufactured by Danoelectro for Montgomery Wards.

Could not locate a schematic.

Hi,

You might check the Valco forum. The Montgomery (or Monkey) Wards/Airline stuff was made by Valco. I recall Gretsch, as well as a host of Dept store amps were made by Valco amps. Too bad it wasn't a 62-9025-A that was the same as the gretsch 6152 according to schematic heaven.

Somebody mentioned the amp you asked about being on Craigs List 6 months ago, buy not being a member I didn't see any replies.

Best Regards,

Steve

Thank you for all the info. I believe there is a schematic for this particular amp in Jack Darr's Electric Guitar Amplifier Handbook.

Someone wouldn't happen to have the book by chance?

In cases like this where you are trying to fill in the gaps and you can't locate the exact schematic it is often helpful to look at other schematics of similar amps by the same maker from the same period to see how they typically handled different sections of the circuit to try and match them up with what is in yours. There's some Dano made Airline schems here :

Thank you for your help. I'll look at similar amps and see what I can can do.

That is the first 8 chapters of Jack's book. The schematics are in chapters 9, 10, and 11.

I've found those 8 chapters in many different places but it seems that the last three chapters have been cut off. Maybe to drive sales of the reprint up? I do not know.

I know it's an old thread but I am bumping it for the schematic because the above links seem to be dead...

Anyone know where it might be?

The Jack Darr book has Airline GDR-9015A: 2 Ch, 4 inputs w/ 5Y3, 2x 6L6, 2x 12AX7, 6CG7, 6AU6. Is that it?

Yes Martin, that's it.

Tapping in on this older thread. I just acquired the same type amp, in pretty good shape. A couple of questions.

Is the speaker arrangement using a choke in parallel to the OT? My amp has a choke tacked onto the inside of the cab, its not connected.
Given this stock schematic I am going to undertake the following.

1. Reconnect the OT and choke, refresh the stock Jensen speaker connections.
2. Three prong plug
3. Replace one 6L6 tube, the rest test well.
4. Replace the Power Tube cathode electrolytic, which looks a bit toasty.
5. Clean all sockets and jacks- although on the inside its in almost new condition.
6. The cab is junk, made with particle board.... build a new cab.
7. The main electrolytic look pretty good but I imagine they should go as well.
8. Check for DC on grids and change out any offending caps.
9. Bring up on bulb limiter /Variac

10. Any other suggestions for this amp?

Under-size the OT (or shunt a choke across an existing OT), low inductance, bass current is shunted away from the speaker. Large bass current can't flow in speaker, excursion is limited.
