Traynor tubes

Post by isaacarms »

I've just "downgraded" from an Orange AD-30 TC head and 2x12 cab to a 1970's Traynor YBA-4 1x15 combo.
Bitch got balls. Huge, cutting, clean tone.

I've cut my dirt pedals down to the Fulltone OCD and the Dano Cool Cat Fuzz, and I've only otherwise got my trusty Boss DD-7 and the Boss RV-3.

Now - I'm about to head into the studio. I'm going to take her in to have all the pots cleaned, but I was hoping some folks could give me some recommendations on tubes for this old tank.

I enjoy the tone now, but I'm looking to see if I might be able to sweeten the tone, and have this thing handle the dirt a bit more. Although I understand a single fifteen can only handle so much (I may play with my Orange 2x12 or Orange 4x12 as an extension cab, at least in the studio).

Thoughts? Recommendations?

cheers!

PS while we're at it, anyone got any advice on the RV-3 vs the RV-5?

Those amps are a marshall waiting to happen, look at the schematic of both a 50 watt marshall and the traynor, and some gut shots of both chassis, I beleave traynor runs there pre-amps at higher voltages, but it should sound pretty good as is, I had a bassmate with a 15" speaker and it sounded cool but was much better with my celestion loaded 2 12 cabs for guitar anyways, so try your orange cabs with a little tweaking i think you'll find you have'nt downgraded amps, Those old traynors are killer mark
