new chinese laney lc30112

hi. i just opened an lc30112 chinese made laney. the manual states that it's got a different circuit from the english made one. so i was curious. it's got a three stages clean channel, which means that it's extremely easy to overdrive it, and not so much clean gain on tap with hb. the distortion channel has a plate load tone stack, and a bridge rectifier with a led, ala jcm900 to create the clipping apparently in modern channel. so in conclusion, laney went from an excellent amp, like the english one, with a fender type clean, and a cathode follower all tube distortion, to a gainy clean, and not so good distortion channel. what a crap...they've lost it. why would they change so drastically and waste a toroidal pt, and so many tubes if the clipping was going solid state??. does anyone here have a schem for these newer amps? i have a rough, full of mistakes one.

No, but I have amps with diode clipping and over $1000 worth of tubes in them. Diodes are great. Why did you buy an amp you don't like?

I'd bet this Laney is like a number of brands out there today,...no real connection to the original company, they just bought the name for brand recognition. Kustom is another that springs to mind.

i just needed round 30 watts. i had a tsa30 that hiss a lot. so i sold it and bought this one, because i thought it was the same circuit i had on schem...and liked the way it looked...on paper...haha. i have other amps...just filling some power gaps...

Laney Amplification Ltd. is doing business as BLT Industries Ltd. today and as far as I know Lyndon Laney is still the CEO of the company.

These guys have a bizarre corporate structure. I think BLT is a distribution arm of Headstock Distribution which does business as Laney Amplification. Lyndon still appears to be there. But anybody can build a line in China, and one in Mexico and one in the UK or wherever.

I don't think this is a case of selling the name to someone else.

i'm a big fun of laney amps. the lionheart ar amazing. as are the gh. even this chinese lc doesn't sound bad at all. they have toroidal pt, and are built really good. my point is that they changed a good design. why not building the same amp in china....??
